Before being married DH and I never really budgeted ourselves. Whatever we wanted we bought and then savings came from whatever we had left. Now that we're married and we hope to buy a house soon, we want to make a budget. We spend way too much on random junk. If you do budget, how did you establish it? How do you realistically set limits on things that fluctuate from week to week? How much do you designate for 'play money'? I need help!

we prob should establish a better one, but at the moment DH and I put a certain amount of money into our checking accound and that is enough for our combined bills (rent, lipa, cable...etc) and that also is some money for our savings...the rest that is left is for our personal bills, and spending! we prob could save alot more if we said we can only spend a set amount on everything else...

Budget... What budget? I'm a spenderrrrr!! My DH is a budget man.. That helps! He helped out light bill go down! Gas and Light (60 bucks!!)
I think we should start budgeting like we used to before the wedding!

we haven't really established one yet. we are paying off some debt that is ALMOST done, so once i think that is done, we can sit down and establish it, right now we are just making money, saving a little bit for spending and the rest going to pay off the debt. we went from 30.000 to 3,900 in 14 months! :)

No… but we should really make one. The only reason we haven’t is bc I don’t know where to start either!
As it is now, DH pays for all of our bills and I pay the cable bill, and then we’re trying to keep most of my check as our savings.

We started with a budget when we started saving for the wedding...and now for a house. We each put a set amount in our joint savings and then the rest is for monthly bills and personal spending.

We definitely do. It's more like a monthly savings rate. We have to hit our target number each month, it's aggressive but we've done OK with it, we're basically living off of 1 salary and saving the other.

I'm in shopping heaven right now....since there is no more the wedding the wedding the wedding savings.
After the holidays, I will slow the spending down and concentrate on saving.

We don't as of right now. But once I start my new job we plan on sitting down with a financial planner. This way we can plan out how much we should be saving, putting into retirement, etc.
