If DH doesn't call his mother once a week, she leaves these messages on our machine.
Hi guys its me, I just want to let you know that I'm still alive. - or -
I haven't heard from you in a while, you know I could be lying here dead'.
DH's parents are divorced. His mother lives alone. She is in good health, drives and is independent. She also had friends that she does things with.
As you can tell, we aren't exactly close.

No I dont-he just chooses not to. I talk to his parents at least once a week.

i could, but i don't. if he doesn't call her, she calls him. she's not the guilt-tripping kind - she's just the kind who will complain to FIL and SIL and we hear about it from SIL later.

I don't, but he goes over every other day or so.
His mom is the same way though...'You know I could be lying here dead' or 'My sons have all left me.'
She guilt trips them and has been doing it their whole entire lives.

Actually, DH remembers to call his parents AND he usually does it on his late night train rides home after class once a week.
Ahhhhhhhh.... That means I'm at home NOT talking to them. (His mom can TALK!)
I'm lucky, they aren't big callers -- they wait for him to call them, even if 2 or 3 weeks go by, unless something comes up. Whew.

They now have given up on calling his Cell Phone.....they call mine!

I don't have to remind him. We talk to her twice a week, we call her once and she calls us.
