Do you think it is appropriate for a vendor to contact you based on something you post??
I just received an email based on something I wrote on BHB. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think this is appropriate? I am kind of suprised.

Heck no, I did an entire thread on this last week, one bride posted something and I gave my honest opinion, why did the vendor feel she needed to FM me, hello, I don't know you, I did not say anything to you or about your work, so please do not FM me Burns me up. How dare they, I said if I need your services I know where to find you. The bride Fm'd me and told me she never told her vendor to contact me and she was happy for my honest opinion.

absolutely not!!!!!!!! there is a reason for the vendor helping brides board!! i have no problem with the vendors reading the stuff (afterall, we can't stop them). i am sure some take note of any issues and try to resolve them in a professional manner. i have zero respect for a vendor you would go after someone for something they posted on BHB.

I think it is tacky! and totally not appropriate. You and we all should be entitled to post whatever we want and if they dont like it too bad

I had it happen too! I posted about what happened with my limo company and another vendor from here contacted the company and told them so I got called as well as my mother and SIL! It created a whole family drama!

Erica to help you by all means, but we are talking about when we make a comment about their work and they FM you to say why you said such a thing etc. No if I ask a question or I made a comment about needing help or something and they took it upon themselves to help, I would have no problem with that.

Shamma I agree with you 100%!!!
I stay away from the BHB and vender recommendations now...partially out of fear...and partially out of being outdated...my quotes are now almost 3 years old...

It wouldnt really bother me. If I say something about a vendor, I have no problem explaining why to them if they want. Provided they are polite, I would not care. But I know it offends people so I think vendors should just not do it b/c it could be more trouble.

I would have no problem telling them what I thought of them as honestly as I posted it. I posted pretty detailed opinions about Spin Around Sound (SOO over rated) and how I felt about them...if they contacted me, Id probably say 'Shame on YOU for not living up to 'Your reputation' and if they had the nerve to contact me and NOt apologize, theyd deserve to lose any business theyd lose from my posts

I think it's very unprofessional if they are commenting on something you posted about them. Or tried to solicit you based on a need you posted about. If you want vendors, you'll go on the vendor board IMO.
However, something like what yabbobay and JN and the pimple is fine, and actually kinda cute.
Just no soliciting or confrontational issues.

Re: Do you think it is appropriate for a vendor to contact you based on something you post??
I posted a response on BHB about my DJ, who I was not happy with. I never once during the wedding went up and complained, because, really, although I noticed every once of their mistakes, I was not about to tarnish the memory of my wedding day by walking up to my DJ and confronting the MC right there. That is not what I want to remember. After the wedding, I really didn't see a point in contacting them. Its not like they can turn back time and do what I had asked and I didn't want to waste my time listening to them defend themselves when I know they had typed and hand written instructions which they ignored.
But now that they have been alerted to a negative review I gave them, I received an email that basically says 'if you have a problem with us call us at ###.' The email made me very uncomfortable because I don't want to talk to them, that's why I never called them after the wedding.
I don't like feeling that I can't give an honest opinion without having some vendor responding by email or phone. They also clearly have employees and friends creating accounts here to say how fantastic they are adn that 'some people are never happy.' These fake brides ONLY post about this DJ company. I am to far past my wedding to out a vendor in disguise on BHB.
Sorry this has now turned into a major vent. I really want to be able to offer brides advice based on my experience, but how can we do that if we can only post positive things about LIW vendors?
At least my review didn't get pulled by Ron

First of all, Becky, I am sorry your DJ company did not perform as expected.
I am in a gray area as far as vendors contacting customers through the boards.
I can see where they would want to clear the air so the negative reviews would be followed up with a 'they did the right thing' sort of comment. But they shouldn't make the NW feel uncomfortable with the tone of the email or FM.
But then it feels like they are spying, which they are in a way, but that's the nature of the internet & especially LIWeddings since it's the vendors that support it.

This happened on the boards last year too. A vendor contacted a bride about a comment she made on the boards. I think that's completely inappropriate we have a right to give our honest review. But after that it made people a little timid about giving their honest review since the vendors check the boards

Back in my planning days the planner at the Hamlet was really nasty to me and quoted posts that I had written when I was upset over a few things. I was super pi$$ed off about it but I also told her that I believed what I had written and that was that. If a vendor is nasty, then FM Ron and tell him about it. If he/she is polite but asking you a question either just delete it or answer them. But I don't ever think it is a good idea to confront one of us- we still together!

Re: Do you think it is appropriate for a vendor to contact you based on something you post??
After my wedding, I posted a negative review about my limousine company. They forgot to roll out the runner for me at the church. I didn't notice it until I got my proof back (2 weeks after the wedding). I DID call them for an explaination and all I was given was EXCUSES...they owner tried to blame my husband and I and even tried to blame my priest (can you IMAGINE???) for their mistake. He even had the nerve to write very mean things about ME on this board!
In reality, all this guy had to do was accept responsibilty, apologize for the oversight (like Becky said - it's not as if they can turn back time at that point), and offer my hubby and I some type of compensation, such as a partial refund of our $3K and a complimentary car service at a future point in time. I mean really...it doesn't take a brain surgeon to learn good business and customer service!
