At my rehearsal dinner, I was given a gift by someone who couldn't make it to the wedding. She's one of DH's cousins and she gave the gift to her mom to give to us.
It was a crystal bowl and a paper-mache guest book. The mom said, 'you can use this tomorrow'. But, we already had a wedding guest book. And, IMO, this book wasn't really 'wedding-y'. It's paper mache with leaves and stuff on it.
The first page is perforated and says 'our wedding'. But, since it's perforated, it could easily be torn out.
Would DH's cousin be offended if I tear out that front page and use the guest book at his 30th BDay party? What else am I gonna do with it???

I think it would be fine to use it for your DH's party. But I would go out of my way to tell that guest that you had already had a signing book for your wedding, but you're so glad you are now able to put her lovely gift to good use.

Nope, wouldn't use it..sorry to disagree, but this is one fight I wouldn't even think of taking a chance with. Blow up a pic of your DH and get everyone to sign it.

I completely agree. I think she would be more than happy just knowing you are using her gift!

i think it is a GREAT idea...and if she asks or if you hear anything about it tell her the truth...You had one already so you thought you would put it to good use for this party!

I have to agree with Blu-ize...i wouldnt use it. Its not worth the chance of insulting her just to save yourself from having to buy something else for the party.

dang. I'm not going to buy a guest book for the party. I just figured since I had this one laying around that I could finally put it to use. It's very casual, so I can't think of anything else that I would use it for.
So, new question: If she declines the invite to the party, THEN can I use the guest book?
