Does anyone...

get the I want a baby bug-- we have always known that we wanted to wait at least 3-5 years--especially since we love to travel and we are planning to buy a house within the year-- but for the past few months ( we have only been married 4) I cant not think about it-- I think part of it is I know we can now becaues we are married- sounds stupid-- but I cant help wanting one!! ugh adn we babysit my newborn twin nieces (born 2 weeks before the wedding) and that helps a bit and we have 8 nieces in total but I want a baby with my husband--
ok i will stop babbling-- in some respect I think I will be better once we have a house since then decorating/fixing it, etc-- will make me realize that we cant do it right now--
any info advice

Does anyone...yes!!

I know exactly what you mean. We don`t want to wait as long as you planned but if it was up to me, we`d be trying right away. Thank goodness he is more realistic about our plans there, since we also want to be in a house first which we won`t be doing until next year. We have a bunch of new babies in our family too and I`m always glad to hold them, play with them etc. My SIL`s were laughing about it one day because the one SIL has 3 boys under 5 and the 2 year old was being very demanding of her time and she was so glad to be able to give me the 5 month old for awhile. They were making bets on how long it would be before we`d have a child. In this day & age of birth control, depending on what you use, it`s kind of hard to be 'unexpectedly surprised' but we might start trying early next year. You can still travel with a baby - to Chuck E Cheese and Sesame Place LOL We`ll have to start a Mother`s to be chat when the time comes :o)

More than anything!!

We originally said we would start trying right after the honeymoon, but a big change in hubby's job made us put it off until 'the fall'. Since we are already in our house, we fortunately don't have to wait on that front. I am so anxious, especially being surrounded by our neices and nephews - especially the 3 month old!! I think we will start trying in October and see where that takes us!! I really can't wait!

Does anyone... Yes, my husband does! : ) *NM*

My hubby does, too

He's more anxious to start a family than I! I'm the one that's being practical about timing, buying a home (see the 'deciding where to live' post from yesterday), etc. I also want to be in a better place fitness-wise b4 we start trying.
I'm also not amused by the family pressures. I feel like before you even say goodnight at the wedding, people are asking, when are you going to have a baby?...don't need the pressure!

More than anything!!

Well, I already have a 6 yr old and am dying to have another. My husband is ready to start right now(we've been married for 2 months), but we're also planning to take my daughter to Disney in April. I don't want to be VERY pregnant while visiting Mickey so we're going to wait a few months. Funny thing--last night when my husband was putting my daughter to bed, she asked him, 'Do you think Mommy's gonna give us a baby soon?'

at some point

we will start. Went for my annual ckup
and the Dr did ask about it. Wants
to stress taking folic acid BEFORE you even
start trying.
I am 34 so I know things start to get
complicated after a cetain age. But, we also
want to enjoy our time as Mr & Mrs before
we totally turn our lives over to a child.
(I know that may sound selfish but I practically
raised my bro after my parents dies. This time
is for ME! and my hubby!)

I can relate

I am going to be 38 in November so I can totally understand the age factor. Hubby and I had originally planned to start around now, but a health issue on my part has delayed our start. We are not ready to buy a house yet, I make more money than he does, and he wants me to be a stay at home mom, or work around his schedule.. I have an 8 year old son who is DYING to become a big brother.. TALK ABOUT PRESSURE.

;-)

I feel so much better ;-) I talked to Jeremy last night about it and it helped-- the funny thing is my MOH got married last week and her husband is older so he wants to start right away so everyone comments on it ALL the time and keep saying that as soon as she gets pregnant I am going to want to-- and of course I deny it--but in reality I cant wait--I also am going to be a stay at home mom ( I Hope) so money is playing a large role--
plus we want to go back to Disney once more WITHOUT kids!!!

Does anyone...you ladies brought up a few issues...LONG.

WOW, this post brought up so many questions besides the main question: stay at home moms (what would the decision be ?) who wants the baby and when, family pressures (you feel like you are having the baby FOR THEM, right ? lol).
First of all, Laura your site is GORGEOUS ! I loved how you had so many kids in your bridal party and the horse carriage was beautiful, and you and hubby looked GREAT!
To answer the post, we both LOVE LOVE children, and we wanted to wait till we were settled in the house and all, so we dont plan to wait too long either.
JENN Z - that is PRECIOUS what your daughter said to your husband!!! God, kids just make you melt ! How can you not want one, lol. Actually i'm pleasantly surprised that so many of you are planning within the first year, I have heard by so many people 'wait, wait, enjoy your time together'..and i've always thought, 'uhh, we dated almost 6years before we got married, how much more can we enjoy together, what is there left to wait for ?? LOL'...
and while we're at it i'm going to ask for a obgyn recommendation, mine is in the city and I wont be going back there since I moved out to Suffolk last year and i'm also working out here....(I just chose a Dr.Louis Cardi out of our plan book, does anyone use him ?) I'm trying to find someone affiliated with GoodSam Hospital..I've usually had female doctors, once a male, not sure if it would bother me or not, it just seems like the majority of them are male..any opinions on that ?
The STay at home issue, whats the ideas on that ? I dont want to make this too long :)

Stay At Home Moms

I want to stay home when my children are babies, but I know that for us, that's out of the question. I am a teacher, and Patrick is a sergeant in the NYPD, so I'll work during the day, and he'll work nights so someone will always be home. I'm hoping for a March baby so I can take my maternity leave and sick days and not have to go back to work till the baby is 6 months old, in September. I can't imagine how hard it must be to go back to work and leave a tiny baby!

Stay At Home Moms

My husband and I are also trying to figure out how to have a baby and still be able to survive living on oh, so expensive LI. I need to work, but don't want to leave the baby (I had to do that with my daughter, and it killed me - eventually worked at night so I could be with her during the day). I am looking into work from home situations as well. Leaving my job would be tough, it has good medical benefits, but I may just end up bartending again. It's sad that we don't have many options anymore. If my hubby made enough money, I'd stay home, plain and simple. But he doesn't, so now it's a big struggle to figure it all out.

Thanks Anna

We also want me to be a stay at home--which is why we must wait--along with the fact that we want to enjoy life some more!!!
Something funny though-- My two newest nieces were christened and we are the godparents to one of them-- so I was showing my MIL pictures last night and she made a comment about how good we look with kids-- so I laughed and she was like not like I am pushing I know you are waiting and have good reasons and Jeremy was like -- well you should be around Laura this week--that is all she wants!! and he was laughing-- I am glad we can talk about it-- and I 'know' waiting is the right thing to do--
but I also know that when my MOH gets pregnant it is going to be really hard not to be!!

Does anyone...

My Husband and I found out 5 months after our Feb 2001 wedding that I was 6 weeks pregnant . We were not all that surprised since we had not been very careful . We were not planning to try until next year . But about a week later , I miscarried . its been almost 2 months since and the dr said we could try again after 2 months , but we may wait since we are just moving into our new house , next week . its been a very interesting and tough first 6 months , but the experience did bring us even closer then before . I do still get a little tear in my eye when I see a new baby .

Anna- Dr. reccomendation

I use a female ob/gyn, Dr. Patricia O''''Sullivan, that is affiliated with Southside. She is part of a group with 3 other males, one of whom is her husband. I have dealt with 3/4 of them and they are all good. The office is on Montauk Hwy. in Oakdale, but she just started at another office on Main St. I think it''''s in West Islip. The # is 589-4344.

Thanks Victoria !

;-)

That is really hard-- but it sounds like the two of you together were able to come through it-- which is the most important thing-
