I am just curious as to how many other wifey's have to deal with a Dh that refuses to get rid of things !?!! My Dh is so sentimental and cant get rid of certain things like newspapers( he is better with this now) , clothes, receipts and cards

Ok let me put it this way...nip it in the butt right now!! lol My DH is like that and it scares me...his father is such a saver it's a sickneses...his basement has magazines and newspapers from the early 90's! he won't throw away a single piece of mail and the house suffers from it. My DH is kind of like that but I don't give him the option. If something sits around for too long it gets thrown away. When we were moving he wanted to keep everything I was like OK...and then when he went to work it went out w/ the garbage...did he ever ask about them??? NOOO!
If it's really for sentimental reasons put it all in a box and put it in the attic or basement....

I saw a family like this on Oprah. The wife said everything was special to her and she couldn't throw a thing out, I'm sure your dh is not as bad as this lady. A great thing the expert on cleaning out the extra baggage said was 'If everything is special nothing is special.' Your DH needs to seperate what is truly special andwhat is just stuff. Based on the episode of Oprah I saw it will involve a lot of crying and hugging. GOOD LUCK

OMG we JUST had this conversation last night
I was telling him I cant find any of my stuff with all his crap all over the place...he says 'well maybe next month we will go thru everything and get rid of it' HAHAHAHHAAAAAAA
Keep in mind, about 3 months ago I pulled out WHOLE closet apart and must have thrown out 10 garbage bags of crap and given away 3-4 bags of clothes and somehow STILL I cant open that closet without stuff falling on me...HAHHAH DH doesnt get rid of ANYTHING

I feel your pain. My DH has emotional attachments to things that belonged to his dad which I understand but he has SO MANY things that I just wish he could let go of one or two things like the dead plant in the corner of our house that he thinks is going to magically sprout again and an old wooden wall unit they makes our living room look like a room out of the 70s. His excuse for the wall unit, 'You cant find pure wood wall units like that anymore'

no, i'm the one with a problem. however, i'm really trying to combat it -- i went through my closet and drawers this weekend and have a huge box of clothes to bring to goodwill. we also weeded out old papers we no longer need. i have a tendency to want to keep things but DH is helping me combat it

I throw everything out and DH likes to save it all. It drives me CRAZY!!!! Our attic is full of crap that he wants to save...for what I don't know. He has recently thrown out alot of stuff though.

Yes DH does do this...I used to think I was a pack rat but I guess I've met my match. It could be a mixed blessing, it's showed me I need to be more organized myself.

My DH has the ticket stub from every concert he has ever attended. He also has every t-shirt he has owned since high school. Not just the concert shirts, every free shirt anyone has ever given him. He also collects games and Pez dispensers. I am scared to count the Pez. It is in the thousands. All of it is going into storage so that we have room for the baby. None of it is being tossed.
Oh well, all the stuff was there looong before me.

I am actually the one who has this problem. I have all my things put away though, i dont like clutter in the house and like clean open spaces. So i have 3 huge plastic containers i bought from the closet store with crap and then i have a couple drawers of cr*p plus in another closet i have stuff.
Dh has some stuff but not alot that he has saved from years ago and its understandable what he does have
But he cant complain to me bc i might save old stuff but OMG he just has too much clothes and sneakers, oh and hats and it takes up alot of space. I gave him a whole closet, 8 drawers, and 2 closets in the hallway and yeah theres still alot left at his parents house. So most of the problem was finding space for his clothes and sneakers. I kept having to make more and more space for it

OMG its so funny reading some responses. I also have every concert ticket saved, old mixed tapes since JHS, all the playbills for every play ive been to, tons of movie tickets, i even have old HS programs, my hs id cards, and tons of things similar to this.

Yes and OMG- its so annoying!! He still has some stuff (a/k/a crap) over at his parents and sometimes we go there, he tries to bring something back. Dude! you havent needed it in 4 years, why do you need it now?!?!??! And its stupid crap like a silver back pack. He never uses the blue one he has here so why bring home more crap.
Thank God he has a trunk for all his crap hes not allowed to bring in the house for lack of space.
