Does anyone know what I am talking about? Suffolk question

LOL, I am beginning to think I am crazy but here it goes....does anyone know of a place in Suffolk, a park that has this area that looks like a bamboo forest? I think it's in the East Setauket/Stonybrook area. No one I have asked seems to know what I am talking about so I will appeal to you ladies to help restore my sanity. I went there a few years ago with my ex-boyfriend who had a house in E Setauket. I was living in the city and wasn't very familiar with LI at the time which makes it harder to recall exactly where we were. I remember there was a lake there also (describes every other park in the USA! it also had a playground hahaha) Help!

Are you sure you weren't on Fire Island. They have bamboo all over the place.

Thanks for your replies. I also posted the question to the Brides and I think someone there hit upon it - Frank Melville Memorial Park in Old Field. It seems the most like the place I remember. I'm going to go check it out with my nephew when he comes to visit. I was looking for a few new places to explore with him other than the local video game places but also that I can do since I will be 7 months pregnant at the beginning of next month. Any other suggestions are welcome, he is 12 years old. Thanks.

I lived in Three Village from the time I was 4 until I graduated High School and I don't think I ever knew of that park in Old Field. How funny -- I'll have to check it out when I visit LI next time

12 years old?? That's a difficult age. The video games will probably work well. How about going to the movies or miniature golf? What about the beach? Or to the Montauk Lighthouse?

Are you sure it was in Suffolk? The Humes Japanese Stroll Garden is in Mill Neck (Nassau) and it sounds like what you are talking about. It is a lovely place to take a peaceful walk, with gorgeous gardens and ponds and even a Japanese tea garden with a tea house. If you go make sure you wear sneakers though. There is a lot of uphill and downhill walking. Well worth it though. And they have lots and lots of bamboo.

It was definitely not the Japanese tea garden you mentioned but that sounds really nice! I may have to go there.
This place was not a beautifully sculpted garden, really just a neat place, I'm pretty sure it is this Frank Melville park.

I know! I think the official name is the Three Village Garden Club Arboretum. You can access it through Frank Melville Memorial Park in Setauket (the mill pond) - (I forget how to get to the actual TVGC Arboretum parking lot). If you take the path around the pond, the entrance is right by a big red barn. If you go in there, you'll see a bunch of paths. There is a bamboo forest along one of the paths. Hope this helps -

Oh yeah -- it is by the Setauket Mill pond you just have to do a bit of exploring.
