Does anyone not use a box spring?

Does anyone not use a box spring?

So DH and I bought a new mattress--an amazingly comfortable pillow top. It came yesterday and we love it. Problem is, it's extremely high. It looks ridiculous. The head board looks really short now and our duvet cover isn't even fitting it right. Not exaggerating! We even ordered the half size box spring hoping it wouldn't be so high.

We have the Sumatra Bed from Pottery Barn. It's a woodframed bed and I just read on the PB site that you can use it with or without box spring b/c the way the frame is designed, it gives the mattress enough support. Would you ditch the box spring?

As long as the bed has a full wood bottom (no slats) you can ditch the box spring!!! We don't use it either..........

Nope we don't. We use the sleep number bed on a black Ikea bed frame thats metal and has headboard and footboard and its fine. We just put a flat piece of wood beneath for support. VERY easy and cheap alternative to the boxspring if you just want a little extra support.

My FIL used to do all kinds of home repairs so we always check with him cause he is crazy anal about some thigns but this was what he suggested and its been working great for 3 years now.

We used risers on the bed to make it higher for storage beneath and just biy King Size for our Queen bed-works better.

Thanks. They bed has wooden planks but they all touch--no open space, so it's like a full wood bottom.

Thanks ladies. DH will be relieved. Couldn't imagine it being that high for good!

I need a ladder to get into my bed. No joke. We have a gigundo pillow top & use the box spring too, even though our frame does provide proper support.
I had to sleep on the couch a few weeks ago when I was sick cuz I was afraid of puking all over myself trying to get down from the bed

It's such a PITA.. I say if the mattress is a few months old and is doing OK, then ditch the box spring... as long as you have a warantee of course
