Kristin, JMO, but DOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNN''''TTT DO IT!

Sorry for the drama there, but I own one and I really personally don't feel like it's worth it - UNLESS you plan on using it every year. Although they tell you that you can use it in thousands of OTHER resorts in the world, there is a fee to use any other resort other than your own, there is also an annual maintenance fee for your resort, and to be able to transfer to another resort you have to pay an annual fee for that too. So suddenly you're talking a LOT of money and you may want to go somewhere that ISN'T covered or there's no availability for where you do want to go, when you want to go. I'm sure other people are very happy with theirs, but I feel like it's a lot of money and a lot of times it's wasted. Maintenance fees also go up every year so it can get very pricey. I think once you have kids, it might be more useful, but again, only if you'll actually use it.

DH and I own one and honestly we use it. We used it for our honeymoon, and we're using it this summer. We like it, but hate the extra fees other than the mortgage. I agree w/ Yesenia, unless you travel a lot, you may benefit from it but I personally enjoy having it!!!

I agree also. I don't want to admit it but I will I work for a timeshare company here in FL and see what owners go through every year. The maintenance fees are alot and do go up every year and if you don't pay a lien gets put on your unit and you can't use it at all for that year. I also see alot of foreclosures too because people can't afford the payments. The reservation system stinks too you have to be on the ball by January with what you want or you sometimes lose the dates you want. The sites are also very slick and sometimes don't tell the whole truth when it comes to everything. I would stay away from them.

I personally would never ever get one. I like your idea of just going away and it is actually cheaper in the long run if you go that route. That's what i usually do. Pick somewhere all inclusive so you guys can have a ball.

i wouldn't do it... ive heard over and over and over again from people what a rip off it is.... so not worth it. you can only go there on certain days, not necessarily when you want to go and it's always more to let others use it or to go someplace else.

I would take that money you spend on one each year and just go on a regular vacation when and where you want to go.
