My engagment ring diamond gets loose I swear every couple of months!!!! I am constantly checking it by wiggling it by my ear and I hear it loose!!! We brought it to the jewlery store where he got it they fixed it and then it happens again.
My stone came loose one time. When we brought it to the jeweler, he said that I likely caught the prong (which had broken) on some fabric or a towel or something. I don't wear it all the time now and when I do wear it, I make sure to take it off when washing/drying my hands, sleeping, getting dressed, to prevent the prong from catching on something again.
After about a year of having my engagement ring, one of the stones sounded loose and the jeweler confirmed it was. He actually added more platinum around the prongs and I've never had a problem since. I probably will get it checked yearly though.

can they replace the prongs with stronger ones? What kind of metal are the prongs made of/ I think platinum is the softest![]()

platinum is the hardest and safest actually. gold is soft, especially if it's a higher karat.
Mine became loose when DH first gave it to me - he would touch it a lot when I was wearing it so I think that was the problem. We bought it to the jeweler where he got it from and he tightened it up. No problems since.
I lost a diamond on my wedding band. DH noticed b4 me, sometime during the HM. No issues with the diamond though in the engagement ring. I would demand they fix it though before you lose it.

I know ! I am sooo pissy about this cause the guy we bought the rings from is DH's friends Uncle. He is alllll the way in connecticut about 3hrs away. My DH's band that was tungsten and he said it was indestructable cracked the night of our wedding. So hubby met up with him in the city to give it to him so he can replace it and fix my ring. THEN when DH picked up the new one, he didn;t even engrave it. The original he engraved but this one nope!! Then a couple of weeks later mine is loose again!!! Sorry just needed to vent!!!
