DON'T recommend a book! (again!)

Original post by MikeandJess

I'm almost done with the last twilight saga book which has me depressed because I'm sad I won't have anything to read when it's done. What should I read next? I want something fun and adventurous and not depressing.

I love, love, love Carl Hiaasen. He's funny. I think I recommended him to you before Jess - I think you'd really like his sense of humor.

I've read and loved:

Sick Puppy (this was the first book I read by him, the one that got me hooked)

Nature Girl

Basket Case

Stormy Weather

Strip Tease

Have you read anything by Emily Giffin?

I don't think so, does she write the something new books?

Yes.

Something Borrowed
Something Blue
Baby Proof
Love the one you're with

She is an excellent writer and I enjoyed all of her books so far.

I read the first 3...I forgot that I have 'Love The One Your With'...I'll have to get on that one.

stephenie meyer. who wrote the twilight series, has a book called 'the host' - first book she wrote for adults. It's long I think but is supposed to be very good - i am getting it for my sister for christmas. she never read before the twilight books - SHE got ME into reading them and I've read forever!!

I have something borrowed to read as well, and I also have heard lots of good things about eat pray love -- which i bought to read on the honeymoon but didn't read at all ....

nope, there's so much stuff I never read. I think I want to read the classics I never read in HS, or read and forgot.

I haven't read David Sedaris so I don't know...

Hiaasen's books (the one's I've read) take place in FL, mostly the Everglades, he's an environmentalist and freaking funny.

Here's an excerpt from his book

longest and one of the BEST books ever is pillars of the earth by ken follett. i wouldn't say it's light reading but it's so good, especially if you are into historical fiction.

classics that will always stick with me are every jane austen book (esp pride and prejudice), catch 22, canterbury tales... wuthering heights. those are just a few.

also anything by john irving is amazing; loved the hotel new hampshire.

dh is getting me the rest of twilight for xmas; i'm already said about finishing them. I think i'll read the sookie stackhouse books next.
