Drive-Ins Are Still Out There
I get asked this a lot - so here is all the info....
You have to be willing to drive - as we live in Jersey - the PA ones are closer to us, but there are still drive-ins in NY.
ALL drive-ins show two movies for one price! The prices run from about $6.00 - $8.00. You can't beat it though - as this weekend, we'll be seeing Iron Man and Indiana Jones for 12 bucks total! ALL theatres are FM digital playback on your radio or some will rent you a boom box for like 4.00. They also still make popcorn with REAL BUTTER at all locations!
1. Our favorite, Becky's: www.beckysdi.com . Has two screens, a playground for the kids, pony rides on weekends and the staff dress up for the BIG movies (for shrek the third, they brought in a donkey and everyone wore shrek masks). This one really makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. Most people bring chairs/blankets and sit outside. Popcorn TO DIE FOR and Dave worships their french fries (freshly made).
2. Mahoning Drive In - http://www.mahoningdrivein.net/ . Largest screen i think on the east coast. Good snack bar, not great - but the popcorn is very good.
3. Shankweilers Drive In - http://www.shankweilers.com/schedule.php . For those with kids - this drive-in usually sticks to PG or PG-13 movies. Excellent snack bar - Dave LOVES their pork barbeque.
4. Fair Oaks Drive In - NY - http://www.fairoaksdrivein.info/schedule/ . In New York - roughly 20 minutes from the Woodbury Commons Outlets. 2 screens! Decent snack bar - popcorn is good!
5. Warwick Drive In NY - http://webusers.warwick.net/~u1006131/driveinmovie/playing.htm . We went here once and won't go back. It's VERY VERY buggy - you will get eaten alive, even if you stay in your car. The bathroom is the equivalent of peeing into a hole.
