dumb people

DH and I went to a nice/expensive restaurant last night for our anniversary. There was a family there with their kids. The one was a baby. Fine. The other was like 8-10 years old. The older one was running around the restaurant and screaming the entire time!!! The parents never once asked him to sit down or anything! There was a fmaily behind us with a kid about the same age and they never once got up from their seat or acted that way. I think that age is old enough to know how to act in a restaurant. how come some parents cant teach their kids this????? If we were at like friendlys or TGIFridays I wouldnt ahve cared. but we were at a nice/pricey restaurant spending well over $100 for a couple to eat. It just P*sses me off!

I'm suprised that the manager didn't say anything to them. I'd be annoyed. My DH probably would have said something.

I luv kids....but would be annoyed by this b/c it was at a nice restaurant.

I would have said something to the waiter or gone to the hostess and asked for a manager. I understand that they too are paying customers. but it is RUDE.

some parents think its cute that their children run around and play in restaurants and parties.. they feel that its their right as kids to do as they please.. these people lack common sense and the kids lack discipline, that's the bottom line.. I would said something totally out of line like 'curb your child'

Re: dumb people

have you ever seen the last episode of NY housewives from last season? where Alex and Simons kids were going NUTS .. i always have this in the back of my mind, because when my son is older and he has a bad night out, I'm going to try my best to do something, because it really isn't fair that parents do this. and I honestly don't see the difference between expensive, or fridays, either way nobody should have to wonder why parents aren't disciplining there kids. I can see maybe if they were at least trying, but just to let them is just plain rude.

it makes me really upset when I see children who are just clearly never disciplined. These kids are very likely to become horrible people in their future. It's so important to teach your children right from wrong (and that INCLUDES manners).

what I don't like though, is that now it's 'wrong' to discipline your children in public. I think that's a horrible concept in our country because it makes it seem like it's OKAY to allow children to get away with whatever they want. I just know that when I have children, and if they're misbehaving in a nice restaurant or a grocery store, they're being spanked right then and there. (I mean, I'd take them to another room, but it's NOT waiting until we get home - because with children punishment has to be right away for them to understand). But now, I'm going to have to be afraid of people seeing and calling child services, jut because I'm a good mother who wants the best for my child. It's pathetic. I understand not beating your child or giving them a slap across the face- but I'm just talking about a quick spanking or whatever. I do think that disciplining in public shouldn't be such a bad thing. Makes me crazy!!!

it pisses me off when people let their kids walk all over them... kids need to be disciplined... some people are scared of their kids lol or trying to be their cool friend... kids don't need cool friends, they need parents...

If I go to a family place, then I do not pay attention to kids running around. But if I go to a place that is for adults and/or a romantic place, I would be livid if this happend. I know that when I go shopping and kids are running amock and parents don't even glance at their kids it drives me nuts...I don't get how that doesn't annoy the parents? I'd be afraid that the kids would get hurt running around like that!

I would've said something ASAP if that happend to me...what do you have to lose, ya know?

Some people just don't get that they need to control their kids when they're in public. They think it's okay. Then again, these are the first people to come run, scream and threaten to sue when something happens to their child because they weren't watching him or her!

Re: dumb people

I am probably in the minority because I have actually yelled at kids...but it's mostly when the kids are REALLY bad...like at Macy's I yelled at a kid for getting on an escalator going the wrong way (mom was oblivious) and I yelled at a child for crawling through the shelves at the library.

I am probably going to get murdered by a crazy parent one day.

So true...why be responsible when you can just blame everyone else????

I agree that kids need to be taught manners and respect. But 'taught' is the operative word...a lot of parents these days just don't. I had a similar experience...DH and I were on our HM in Hawaii at one of the hotel restaurants...there were 2 families sitting at a table with a couple of small kids and they were running all around unattended...one of them even crawled under our table !!! DH and i looked at each other like, Are you kidding me?!! To top it off there was a pond we were sitting next to.,,,and one of them leaned way over and almost fell in (I almost pushed him ). When we left, of course these two families were right in front of us....and the kids were screaming and running throughout the hotel. I finally actually yelled at them to be quiet THe parents were nowhere near us (what a surprise!) when I yelled thank God. I was just so fed up....
