you should avoid dutch ovens AT ALL COSTS!oh THAT dutch oven.

but what do you use them for? is there stuff that you make that you NEED a dutch oven for?how does it compare to a roasting pan?

they aren't necessary if you aren't a serious cook.honestly - i bought mine because they are pretty and i found one clearanced out.
they get hot, stay hot and distribute heat well.
they're great for cooking a LOT of things, you can serve out of them, put it from oven to the freezer/fridge.
eh... i dont know anything else about it.

This is mainly why I love and use mine. I make chili, sauce, and have even made burgers in it (Black bean and regular beef).

i've had one for 4yrs and have never used it. and i cook, A LOT!!! It just takes up space!!
