Did you mostly receive little things as gifts? money? gifts out of your registry?
I have heard various people that feel two sides about it: 1- that it is a way to celebrate with the couple so no big gift is needed 2- it is a way to help the couple with the costs associated with a wedding.
I am not too sure where I stand and since this is a BORINGGGG Monday I figured I would post something to spice things up a bit.

Re: E-Party Question
I went to an E Party and the couple wasn't registered anywhere so I just gave them something that I felt the bride would need during the planning. Turns out they called off the engagement about 3/4 months later

Re: E-Party Question
We had an E Party and we got gifts. I was totally shocked b/c I didn't think people gave gifts at E Parties.

Re: E-Party Question
Yes we did...we kept it small though around 40 close family and friends. We actually got a good amount of money...
We wanted an e-party to celebrate and in my tradition we bless the ring.
Im pretty sure most of us thought in back of our minds how the money would help out the wedding.

Re: E-Party Question
I always felt E-Party's were not necessary HOWEVER my in law's really wanted to throw us an e-party and it was so much fun and we LOVED it!. I recommend it to all my newly engaged friends.
First, it is so nice to celebrate your engagement and prolong the wedding experience.
Second, if anyone feels 'it is silly' as many do, just don’t go!
As far as gifts...we got really incredibly generous gifts and some small gifts..all were appreciated

Re: E-Party Question
We threw our own engagement party. We werent registered at the time so all the gifts we recieved were money.
We did not throw our party for gifts. We wanted to celebrate but for the most part I think most parents throw the engagement parties and we go by the tradition of its to help prepare for the wedding...

ETA: I didnt realize that engagement partys arent that common. I dont know any couples who have not had engagement party.

Re: E-Party Question
We didn't have one. Most of the e-parties we went to have clearly been organized so that the couple got gifts. They sent registry cards and of course all of the things they were registered for were onver $100. They all had 200+ people at their e-party-----they were bigger and fancier than my wedding. It just seemed a bit much.
I've heard of people having e-parties just to get both sides of the family and close friends together....without it being all about gifts.

Re: E-Party Question
We had an engagement party but only because at the time we thought we were going to have a destination wedding and knew a lot of people wouldn't be able to come (especially friends) and we wanted to celebrate with them.
However, once my brother and his wife announced their destination wedding for three months before we wanted to have ours, we decided against it because it would have been a huge burden for family. They were engaged first so they got first dibs!
ETA: We were not registered and everybody gave us money

Re: E-Party Question
we had one, about 90 people, outside, casual... we just wanted to celebrate being engaged so we had a party that DH's parents helped us throw/pay for.....
it was good practice for wedding planning
we got all cash gifts and didnt register until it was closer to the wedding

Re: E-Party Question
We didn't want to do one, we felt it was just too much between the Bridal Shower and the wedding, we just didn't want people to feel like they had to spend more money on us. I personally just didn't like the idea. But from what I have heard, and if I was ever invited to one, I would give money.

That's exactly how we felt. We got engaged and married within a year so we felt that it might have been overkill. I also did not have the time or extra money to plan anything.

Yup overkill is the word I would use lol I didn't have the money at the time to do something like that either.

Re: E-Party Question
I never liked the idea of having an e-party, but once we got engaged I really wanted to do something where our two families could meet and the BP could mingle before all the wedding hoopla started. So we had a backyard party at my parents' house and only invited close family and the BP (and their significant others). It was only around 40 people. We hadn't registered yet, so we mostly received gift cards, and a few actual gifts. I'm glad we did it!
