Ok, I have to confess, I have never been on an elliptical before b/c I never knew how to use it, and I hate asking people at the gym...
Anyway, I got on it last night, holy sh$t! I could only do it for 15 minutes! My thighs were burning so bad!! Please tell me it gets easier and that I can build up my endurance!!
I felt like such a loser slinking off of it then running over to the treadmill!!

I was the same way when I first tried one. OMG did it kill but then you get used to it you just have to build it up. Do 15 min then go to 20 and before you know it your doing 30.
Don't worry you prob didn't look like an @ss. I seen worse at a gym.

Re: Elliptical machine kicked my a$$!!!
It absolutely will get easier - just keep at it and don't be ashamed if you have to quit after 10 or 15 mins. The elliptical works different muscles than the treadmill, so if you never did it before, those muscles aren't developed yet. Give it some time -you should be able to gradually up your time by a few minutes each week. Another tip is, don't be tempted to jack up the resistance right away even if you feel like you can - it's better for your cardio health to stay on longer at a lower resistance.

So lets say I want to use 'no resistance' is there a way to do that??

I would imagine the machines you're using have levels you can enter at the beginning of your workout - after you enter your weight and workout time. Stick to level 1 until you feel more comfortable and less sore. If you're pressing a 'quick start' button where the workout starts automatically without asking you for weight or workout time, I believe you're automatically started on level 1.

Re: Elliptical machine kicked my a$$!!!
I do the Fat Burn workout it's switches between 4 minutes of low resistance and 4 minutes of high resistance. The four minutes at the hig resistance are the longest four minutes of my life. I suffer about 5 mini heart-attacks. Eventually it does get easier.

I think that's the main reason I stick to the treadmill and weight machines
great job trying the new equipment! I always get a little nervous steppingon a new machine
