Entertaining in your home

Hi.

As you all know, got married in September and we moved into our apt around the same time. We are still trying to get the apartment together and we have some furniture being delivered soon. IMO, we still have quite a bit to do before the apartment is complete.

Well DH is pushing that we have people over because our friends really want to see our place. It is a nice place but it will be even nicer once we make the final touches.

I guess my question is did you let people see your place, did you start entertaining before your home was 'complete'?

K- your home will 'never' be done, lol!!!!! I wanted to wait too but to date, I STILL have not finished TWO rooms in my home and have had many events already. People know you are settling in and take that into consideration. Have it

Re: Entertaining in your home

If we waited to get everything in place before we invited people over, we still wouldn't have entertained.

I wouldn't wait as long as my place was comfortable for guests. Your friends will not care that it's not 'finished' Would you if you were invited to a friends house?

Re: Entertaining in your home

I understand where you are coming from. I have been living in my apartment for a year alredy and it is still not done. I have to do alot of painting and adding extra touches to it. I need new bedroom furniture and so on. I refuse to have people over my house. Only a selected few are allowed to come over only because I know how they are and their personalities. But there are others that I just don't want them to come over until my home is completely done.

Re: Entertaining in your home

These are your friends, not the editor of Beautiful Homes. Who cares if you are sitting on bean bag chairs, folding chairs and use tray tables...friends are there to share with you and celebrate not to evaluate your home. I have always said that your closest friends means that you do not have to make sure your place is perfect...the so-not close friends are the ones that you dust the baseboards for.

Thanks Kathy. We are defintely 'here'

Some people you do not mind, but there are some people who are very judgemental and critical and I can do without.

Re: Entertaining in your home

absolutely!
We had our first big party on Fathers Day - 30 or so people. We had 0 furniture in the LR and DR. Everyone was outside on the deck where we had gathered whatever tables and chairs we could to accomodate a bar, buffet and everyone. Our family and friends loved it.

Re: Entertaining in your home

If your friends are truly your friends then they won't care. Like curly said your home will never be done and she is so right! I still have no kitchen! So I can't even cook for anyone, but I still have had friends and family over. They all know and understand and if they don't then in my opinion these are people that shouldnt be coming over. I dont want people coming over to judge my home, I want them over to enjoy their company.

So don't worry about it girl and just have your get togethers...and have fun and forget what people say...

Re: Entertaining in your home

I recently moved too. We threw out all of our furniture and is starting over with new furniture. We are still waiting for delivery of our bedroom and kitchen set.

I haven't had anyone over, but my husband did. He had the guys over for football. They had a blast and didn't care.

If these people are your friends they will come over and not be judging you and your hubby.

Re: Entertaining in your home

Kesha, come over to my house it is still empty but it is filled with so much love and everyone always feel so comfortable, everyone is always asking us when is the next GTG.

Open your home and welcome your guest sweetie. A home is not made of furniture. If we waited for all the furniture that I would like it to have for our home, we would never have anyone over.

Go ahead girl open the doors wide. If they are true friends they will be so happy to be over that they will even sit on the floor.

As long as you are comfortable in your home with or w/o furniture it will show. You have seen all my pix from all the million and one gtg we have had.

Re: Entertaining in your home

We had friends over to see our apartment as we were renovating it. We had our dining room table already but the kitchen wasn't done So we just order in some food.

Your friends and family will understand that your in transition.

Kiesha, your true freinds won't notice if they have to sit on the floor, a box or a leather chair

Well lets just say we had family over the first night we moved in and we had the carpets ripped up, no table or chairs moved yet. We ate pizza on folding chairs.
