?etiquette for thank you cards

My proofs wont be ready until around October--- is that awkwardly long to wait to send out Thank yous for a July 8th wedding?

I know ettiquette says I have up to a year-- but what about REAL WORLD ettiquette--- will people feel slighted?

My DH thinks it's too long and he wants us to send out non-professional pics with our thank you's asap...
what do you think?

yeah, that's what I was thinking-- it should be ok if it's before the 6 month mark. At least that is what I hope-- the people who really care about us wont be talking badly about a thank you card-- I hope

I thought I heard the magic timespan for what guests expect is 3 months after the wedding

I dunno.... at any rate, that's my goal... to get them out before 9/9......... my TY's are due in either next fri or the following mon.......

in my opinion, i find it very rude to wait months and months for a thank you card. you're not getting your PROOFS until Ocotber?????. i had mine a week after my wedding ---perhaps at least a few could be e-mailed to you so you could choose an appropriate one for a thank you.

OR i would write a nice thank you note with a non-pro pic OR a thank you note without a pic is perfectly fine without a photograph. i would rather a thank you card quickly with no pic than a late card.

I had 170 people at my weddigng as well as many gifts that were sent to us by people that couldn't come. i got married on 2/17. We had well over a 100 cards to write... All my thank you notes were done and received by the end of March '07

If your proofs aren't going to be ready until Oct. how long after you pick proofs will the pictures then be? It still takes a few weeks atleast after that. I would send ty notes before hand!

Why wont your proofs be ready until October? Thats a really long time....ours were in our hands no later than a month after the wedding.

It also takes minimum several weeks to get the thankyous from the photographer from the time you get your proofs. So, you're talking like Novemeber or December for the thanyous to be out in the mail. IMHO I think thats too long. Although you technically have a year to get them out, I think its rude to wait longer than 3 to 4 months.

it's true, that's quite a wait just for proofs.... ours were done within 3-4 weeks..... and our TY's only take one week to print up...

If it were me, I'd gently nudge the photographer to get the proofs sooner, so the cards printed soon....

why don't you send out your thank you cards now and then include a wallet size pic of you and dh in your holiday cards? I read somewhere that if it is the photos holding up your ty cards then forget the photos...send them out...

technically, a bride has a full year to send out wedding thank you's! I think that's crazy.....but a couple of months is fine. I think people totally understand how busy you are....honeymoon, sinking into married life, etc.
If it really bothers you that much....can you call people to personally thank them (not all....just the top 10 who you're most concerned about....) and then follow up with your 'real' thank you's?
