I did not have a rehearsal dinner for my wedding....so I'm curious to know.... are formal invitations sent out for them? Do you send invitations for a rehearsal dinner?
An out of town friend is getting married next week, and she just mentioned her rehearsal dinner to me now.
I told her that we will NOT attend b/c we won't be getting in on time.
Truth is that I don't want to go b/c I feel like I wasn't really invited....she just told me last minute b/c she didn't realize before hand that I was staying over the night before.
Am I wrong? Are people invited last minute to RDs? OR, is it a formal invitation process?
Thanks

Re: Etiquette Question....
Some people don't send formal invitations out for the RD. I sent invitations on nice paper, but nothing fancy. Since it's usually an informal dinner a phone call or e-mail or word of mouth is fine. I wouldn't be offended, esp if she did the same thing for everyone.

Re: Etiquette Question....
Unsually invitations are issued. FOr my reherasal dinner my in-laws were throwing it and they were trying to do it at their houe which was being renovated. Needless to say the renovations weren't done on time so they switched it last minute to a restaraunt and therefore invitations weren't issued.
A lot of times people forget everyone they need to invite and therefore the invited tend to be 'last minute' Each times its different though
Sorry, I think I just went around in a cirlce

Re: Etiquette Question....
We didn't send invitations. We called most guests to let them know and that was about a week before the wedding. All of the out of town guests were invited when they recieved the welcome bag with the itinerary when they checked into the hotel. Most of the oot guests knew about the dinner before checking in. The itinerary just told them where to be and when.

Re: Etiquette Question....
I sent out formal invites a little more than a month before the wedding. Everyone who was invited already knew about it, though.
However, some are less formal than others. Not everyone sends invites. It could also be that she was unaware you were staying over and decided to invite you to the RD when she found out you'd be there the day before the wedding. I don't think that's rude. I think it's very generous, actually. We didn't have the space or $$ to invite all of our OOT guests -- though most came the day of the wedding anyway.

Re: Etiquette Question....
ours was casual and planned kinda last minute so no invites, just calls to personally invite. i would have understood if someone couldnt attend bc it was last minute. but i dont think you HAVE to send invites for them. it depends on the couple and how casual or formal the event is. if you can be available to go, i would go and not hold it against her.

Re: Etiquette Question....
I didnt send out invitations - I told all the girls in the BP, and DH told all the groomsmen - we also didn't have it at a restaurant, we had it at DH's parents house...

I have the exact opposite reaction to this. It sounds to me like she is being very generous and polite inviting you now that she knows you'll be in town the night before the wedding. She may have assumed you weren't an OOT guest.
Not everyone invites the OOT guests. We had only family and bridal party at our RD. That was 40+ people, so we couldn't have all the OOT guests, too. Luckily they all came the day of the wedding, anyway.
It sounds to me like your friend is being rather gracious. I didn't invite any of my friends who weren't in the BP to the RD -- and none expected to be invited. I've only ever been invited when I was in the BP or close family...
