I was invited to a former coworkers wedding - DH and I aren't going since it's in the poconos and would cost us an arm and a leg to get out there...
she and her then BF came to our wedding and gave $100 as a gift.
My normal gift for not attending a wedding woudl be $100 -- but since they gave that to us and came, can I give less?
does this make me sound super cheap?
She's not from NY and not having hte wedding in Ny and I know she's paying around $60 per person for those going to the wedding...
Can I send $50 for not going?

Re: etiquette question -- wedding gift -- not going
I would say that's fine... You're not going... I was always pleasantly suprised when someone who didn't rsvp yes, sent us a gift.
I know people are going to tell you 'Give what you feel comfortable...' but I know you want examples.
I would say it is perfectly acceptable for you NOT to send a gift...

ditto
i don't think there is a standard. honestly--not one person who RSVP'd no sent a check. (one person did send a lovely gift from tiffanys) -- so i think anything at all is better than nothing

Re: etiquette question -- wedding gift -- not going
caroline brings up a good point - most of our guests that rsvp'd 'no' didn't send anthing. only 1 guest sent a gift that didn't come to the wedding.

Re: etiquette question -- wedding gift -- not going
I would send $100. I would think since my wedding was not that long ago and that is what they gave us I should give it to them. I don't usually give gifts tit (haha) for tat but I would be paranoid if i did not give the same amount that I would be forever thought of as cheap.

i would do $50 for not going.
if you went, then you give the same amount but since you are not going, i say $50 will do! and you can send a small little gift like a wedding picture frame- just to be thoughtful...
