etiquette question...Thank You's

What did you write in your Thank You's to those who could not attend the wedding but sent gifts (cash)?

I have 9 very generous people who did not attend our wedding but sent us checks. I was surprised and thought it was very generous of people to send money although they could not attend. I was thinking of something like this but any suggestions would be helpful:

'I'm sorry you could not make it to our wedding but your generous and thoughtful gift is greatly appreciated.'

How does that sound???

Chris

I wrote:

We are sorry you couldn't attend our wedding, you were greatly missed and thought of.
Thank you for the generous gift, it was greatly appreciated.
We hope to see you soon.

I wrote something different to everyone (i hate when i get somethign that was so obviously just written to many people) but that is just my pet peeve.

I think you should say exactly what you told us: That they were missed at your wedding and you were very sorry that they couldnt attend but that you were touched by their generousity despite that.

I don't think it's necessary to have to re-invent the wheel with every single thank you card. There are plenty of ways to express your thanks without it sounding like you wrote the same thing to everyone...you just have to modify a few words here and there, depending upon how close you are with the guest.

'DH and I truly missed having you with us on our wedding day, but want you to know that we were deeply touched by the thoughtfulness and generosity of your gift. We look forward to seeing you both soon to share some photos and memories of our day. Many thanks...with our love, etc (insert however you feel comfortable signing)'

Personally, I do not like referencing 'a generous gift.' I would word it something like 'We are sorry you were unable to join us on our special day. Thank you for remembering us.'
