I was just thinking how expensive these weddings have gotten. i said to my husband that we should pick and choose future weddings bc I saw the $50 gifts that people gave me that were far below what i paid. Also, the no shows which i foot those costs like it was pennies. I cant imagine if I had takn a place like oheka that is probably 200+pp. could u imagine losing 400 when a couple doesnt show? My point is that I think to go to a wedding is like going on vacation. It has become unreal.

Re: expensive weddings
I know what you're saying. I had a pretty pricey wedding and I spent over $1000 on no shows, or last second cancellations. But just because some people stiffed me, I wouldn't skip their wedding.

Re: expensive weddings
Not sure if I would base my attendance to someone else's wedding on what they gifted me at mine. Maybe their travel (perhaps baby sitting, airfare, car + gas and /or hotel) , time and attendance to your wedding should be reason enough for you to at least reciprocate. Each situation is unique.
ETA: No shows are a different story!!

Just give them back what they gave you! That's what we do...well most of the time

Re: expensive weddings
If someone just didnt show up to my wedding without any reason, I dont think i could be friends with them afterward. It has nothing to do with the money - its a complete lack of respect.
But people who give small gifts are just a fact of life. I have kind of come to expect that Im just never going to get what I give (and that goes for all the other gifts like birthdays, showers, child births, etc..).

Me three. Some people gave us very generous gifts, and some not as large. It is a fact of life, and I knew I couldn't go into this expecting to make money off of the wedding. Some people legitimately cannot give large gifts due to economic problems, and I'd rather they attended than skipped it because they couldn't give me a big gift. Some are just plain cheap, but oh well.

Re: expensive weddings
Anyone who thinks I am looking for gifts missed my point. I said that going to a wedding has become like going on a vacation and I truly feel me and my dh will have to start picking and choosing whose weddings to go to and whose not to. I entitled this 'expensive wedding' bc thats what they are. An average gift is about 200 and it goes up from there. As far as the $50 gifts I refer to, I would love to give it, but I know I cant. SO back to my original point, we will have to pick and choose which we attend and which we can not.
