faaaantastic

faaaantastic

I just need to vent here right now. I dont even know what to do. DH is still in Ranger School, so I cant even talk to him.

I took my car into the shop yesterday to have it checked out before I head back down to GA. They were just supposed to fix the AC and check the oil pressure gauge -- the gauge kept going down to zero, but I just had my oil changed, so I figured it was just the sensor.

Well, they called today to tell me that they need to run a few more tests, but they dont think the oil is the sensor -- they think my engine is going!!!!! They told me that if thats what it is, I should sell the car immediately before its a paperweight and I definately cant drive it back down to GA.

The problem is, I'm closing on our house on Thursday and its the last day that I can do it. I HAVE to drive down there -- I have all the paint cans and stuff in my trunk. So now what?? Do I chance it and drive anyway?
I cant buy a new ar right now -- financially we cant afford it and even if I could, it would take a few days to find one, register it, have it inspected, etc. Plus....if I came home with a new car, DH would KILL me. We just bought a house -- we cant afford this.

Ugghhhhh....I'm just getting so sik of DH not being around when I NEED him. I'm stuck in NY with a car thats probably going to die on me half way to GA and I have no money or time to get something to replace it.

This just s u c k s....

Ohh no that's horrible! Do you parents have an extra car that you can borrow for a while???

Or did you try just going to enterprise rent a car...and just rent a car to drive down there??? Don't think that's too pricey.

I'm sorry

Re: faaaantastic

why not rent a car? places like avis have unlimited mileage, so you don't have to worry about going on a long trip...hope it works out

p.s. - def get a 2nd opinion before you chance it...you don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere with a dead car!

I am so sorry that this is happening. I was going to suggest a second opinion bit it looks like you are crunched for time. Was the car acting up when you took it in? This happened to us once where the dealer said we needed this, this and this done when we were just going to get the oil changed and I ended up going to another dealer who said I didn't need it at all. It saved us alot of money.

Does anyone have a car you can borrow? It was mentioned about renting a car but I don't know how much that would be from NY to GA. But I am leaning more towards a second opinion at this stage. Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope that is not the problem with your car. Keep us posted.

Re: faaaantastic

Okay..I've calmed down a bit so I can actually think clearly.

I am taking the car in tomorrow morning first thing for a 2nd opinion. My dad and my friend's hubby both say it sounds more like the oil pump, not the engine. So, if it means I can get it fixed, I'd rather go for the 2nd opinion to be sure.

IF it still turns out to be the engine, I'm going to leave the Jeep up here with DH's parents (hopefully they can sell it for us) and I'll rent a car to drive back down south. DH's car is still in GA, so I'll have that to use to get around once I'm back down there.

Thanks for the suggestions and for getting me level-headed again. I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope the first mechanic was wrong...

...and when DH comes home next week...I'm going to beat him up for leaving me to deal with all this cr@p on my own I just hate when you have a PLAN and nothing goes accordingly! I was so ready to drive down to NC to close and then head back to GA to see DH. Nothings ever easy

So glad you are taking it for a second opinion because you never know it could be what you thought all along and they are trying to take you for a ride. Then if worse come to worse just rent that car and drive back.

Awww that is good DH is coming home next week and maybe he is testing you . But you can show him that you took care of it by yourself. Let us know how the 2nd opinion went
