Do you believe in fate? And do you believe that each of us has one soul mate?
I believe in both. I think that things happen for a reason, even though we may not always know what that reason is. In a way, this helps the tough parts in life a little easier. But I also believe that it was fate for DH and I to end up together. And I believe strongly in soul mates. DH and I are meant to go together- our souls connect in a way I can't even explain- I just know that it is so right.

Re: Fate and Soul Mates
nope..... I'm way too pragmatic for that. (while I adhere to religious traditions, it's mainly for the sake of tradition and culture... I must confess I don't believe most theological stuff.... like God has a plan for me... or the idea of souls, heaven and the like)
I just think if you're alert, you'll recognize a good thing when you see it much less romantic, but still rather flattering to a person when they're picked as 'the one'

I realize this sounds like a downer, but no, I don't. I don't believe there is only one person in the world for everyone. There are definitely people who are better candidates for spouses for each person than others, but there's not one person who is the ultimate soulmate. Realistically, if none of us on this board had met our respective DHs, does that mean we'd never be happy with anyone else? I hope not.
That said, I think what the beauty of marriage is about is free will--making a choice and a commitment and following through with it.

nope! I believe we all have many potential partners who we could live blissful lives with. I think you choose one, and choose marraige, b/c its a lifestyle that you want. You choose your mate....it doesn't come to you automatically. You make your happiness together.
As for fate....you make your own fate.

no way
i think the idea of soul/fate mates is just like setting yourself up for failure. its like 'there's just one perfect person out there and you HAVE to try and find them or you won't have a match!'
ehh--not to me. true love and marriages are about working and compromising with the person you are with. i love my DH more than anything on this earth--he is the one for me without a doubt...does that mean i think we were 'destined' for one another. nope---we have to work at it like anything else. and thru all that, ups and downs, highs and lows, is how you make marriage work.

I agree with you 100%!!!!! DH & I are soul Mates, the only way that I can explain it is it's like putting a puzzle together. Each piece interlocks together making it a whole, that's how DH and I are we make each other whole. Fate, Soul Mates, Free Will, it all goes hand in hand.

I couldn't agree more!!! Especially since I indeed set myself up for failure with my older son's father. Relationships have to be worked on, on both sides. There's no 40 me 60 you, if you know what I mean. With my marriage we give it our all, 110 percent , and 50 years from now, when you ask this question again to someone, or if I remember, it is then I will believe I have found my soulmate

I agreed that I believe that there is such a thing as fate and soulmates!! However, I do not believe that your DH has to be your soulmate!! I believe fate brought him and I together, and I also think that MY SISTER is my soulmate!!

I believe in fate but not necessarily soul mates. I think that fate brings you together with people in general in your life. When you come to a fork in the road which path do you choose, thats what I think of fate. As for soul mates, I dont really think there is only 1 person for anyone, its a matter of the time and place that you are in in your life.

Re: Fate and Soul Mates
YES! DH and I met 11 years ago and thru that whole time we always found each other when we grew apart or lost touch. We were only going on a 3 day trip with friends when we got together. But the friends cancelled on us last minute, so it was just the 2 of us! We talked about our lives as kids and we grew up one town over from each other. He is my best friend, I love him and DD more than anything else in this world. Thanks for making me cry!!

I do believe in fate, but I believe it only takes you so far. Then you have to make the next decision, and free will takes over. It's like, you're always being guided in a certain direction, but fate can't force you to go there.
As for soul mates, I believe we have multiple. I would say I have about a handful. IMO, soul mates are those souls you've traveled with through multilple lifetimes. But then, I believe in reincarnation so...

I agree with most of this-in a sense that yes there are sould desitined to be together because of a story I read in my mythology calss-great class by the way. We covered all diff stories from diff cultures, religions and one of them was about soul mates. I forget the origins so forgive me if some details are wrong but essentially the story said that all people had two heads, 4 arms and four legs and shared one heart. But one day the gods grew angry with them and cast down a thunderbolt to drive them all into two. So each now had two legsm , one head and two arms but was always left looking for the missing part. When they find it, they feel complete. The story wasn't about the love between man and women, but simply about the connection between the person, whether husband, wife, family member or simply friend, whom you feel is a missing part of you... I just liked the story.
If anyone wnats to watch some great movies about love/fate etc, these are awesome:
1. Sliding Doors...Fully embraces the idea that things happen for a reason and whats meant to be will be in some shape or form.
2. If Only... AMAZING Movie and Im not even a Jennifer Hewitt fan but watch it with a BOX of tissues because you will need it.
3. Forces of Nature...About doubting yourself, trying to find a different path and then coming full circle and realizing that what was meant to be was always right in front of you.
