Hi ladies, I have a question. How is it being the wife of a NYC fireman? I know I've spoken to most of you girls a lot being that my husband is a member of the NYPD, but I'm wondering if there is much difference in being the wife of one versus the other. My DH is doing a lateral transfer in May and will be starting the NYC fire academy. I think I'm excited...I'm just not sure how to feel. I feel that although I'm frustrated w/his hours now(midnights)I know what it entails being that my dad is retired. This will be all new to me and it's a little scary! So, what do you girls think? Do you think it will be pretty much the same? Any advice you can offer will be appreciated... Thanks!

Re: FDNY wives
Shannon,
As the wife of a NYC fireman IMO your life is about to change for the better. After the academy is over and he is assigned to a house he can get a 24 partner and will work 24 hours then usually have off for 72. He will have more time home and when you have children he will be around to enjoy them.
Granted the job is a dangerous one, but the comraderie and tradition in the firehouse is something to be experienced.
If you have any ? please feel free to FM me
and yes they have their groupies too..lol

Re: FDNY wives
Michelle, Thanks so much! I'm just nervous about the change and I hope it doesn't change him too much...I can always take changes for the better!!! He has some cousins who seem to have changed for the worse and that worries me. It's almost like they forget that they are married w/children! (I don't mean women wise)Thry LOVE to hang out a little too much! I guess it depends on the person and the marriage! :) Where does your husband work? Thanks for your advice and groupies will always be groupies and never wives!!!
