Feeling Sick from Today`s News (Long)
I have been feeling the same way many of you had already mentioned as the holidays are drawing closer. I just haven`t had that same drive to decorate the house, pick out the 'perfect' tree, etc. So, we ended up with a tree much too dry, that already looks like it's seen its best days .. and it`s not even decorated one bit .. just sitting there in it`s stand on the tree skirt.
We`ve also had some things go wrong lately .. big plumbing expense, a new tv (christmas present hubby and I bought for each other) busted just hours after being delivered, our garage door opener broke, and we had minor problems with the hardwood floors we just had refinished. The floor expanded with the final coats of finish, and forced the finish in some spots to bubble at the seams where the boards meet. So they had to be called back to smooth things out. I guess the topper would be the mortgage rates. Okay, maybe we were a little lax in getting the refinance paperwork completed, but in a matter of just a few weeks, the rates jumped a full percentage point, and now for the past couple of weeks, we`re not so sure refinancing would be a good idea. That means there`s little to no chance of me leaving this night job. Guess I should feel lucky that I still have both jobs when so many people don`t even have one.
I`ve been really emotional lately, crying at silly things, or losing my cool. Part of that I attribute to being overly tired and having no personal time just for me and what I want to do, or not do.
I`m not motivated to put our album together or get the final things in order for the video, because of a few things that really have annoyed me (missed moments) about the work that was done.
Anyway, today, I feel like I`ve had it. What kind of world are we living in?? Everyone talks about helping people in need, especially those who have been effected by the WTC devastation. Everyone talks of being kinder and gentler.
But I wonder, where are all these people?? I spend a lot of time driving on the road, and they are certainly not out there, despite all the bumper stickers and everything else I see decorating the cars. I have seen more accidents in the past two weeks than I can ever recall in such a short period of time. Am I surprised? No. If anything, I`m surprised that I haven`t seen more, or worse, been involved in any of them. People are driving like absolute lunatics. Everyone out there is driving as if they are the only ones who matter. Same can be said when walking through the malls.
No doubt, people have been generous with opening their wallets, but it`s more than just giving money. I do know there are genuinely good people out there, but today I just got really sickening news at a really bad time when I`m already feeling down about how a good portion of people really treat each other.
A friend of mine, who I`ve known for about five years .. one of the sweetest guys around .. truly kind and innocent .. had his house broken into. This guy lost both his parents in a very short time span just a few years ago. He`s still living in their house (alone), and now, just in time for the holidays .. some low lives break in while he`s at work and take sentimental items that can`t be replaced, along with money that was to be used for Christmas shopping.
I just don`t get people at all. Is it really that difficult to be courteous to neighbors?? To make your own living?? To leave other people`s things alone?? To go about your own life if you can`t add something worthwhile to someone else`s life?? I guess being selfish is just too easy.
