Is there a moment or moments that stick out in your life that you think about all the time where you have felt really stupid. You know you probably didn't mean to do it b/c you know better, but it happened and now you are left feeling like a retard? lol
DH and I went to London/France one year and we went into a pub and had lunch, towards the end of the meal I asked DH if we tip like we do in the states. DH is too macho to ask anyone for help, so I wound up asking the guy behind the bar and I felt like a dumb@ss. I mean, maybe it's a given to some people lol but I didn't know if they do it differently there. I think we wound up giving the guy a 10 american dollars, tip lol I still feel stupid about that till this day. :(

Don't feel stupid about that -- it is better to tip someone too much than stiff them! even when I am in a country where tips are added to the check, if I feel service was very good I will still leave extra.

I have these moments ALL the time! Do you know how often I will preface a question with, 'This is gonna sound totally stupid, BUT...'? I guess I feel like if I say that first, it'll mask it or something LOL!

Everyday! I don't think before I speak sometimes The other day at work my friends were talking about how the bosses in the one building didn't have a holiday part and the other boss did. I said 'well the other two are Jewish' Um who cares its a Holiday party not a Xmas part. I felt so stupid. I feel stupid even typing it

oh no, yes!! I still think about the time when me & DH went to the jeweler to get my engagement ring resized last summer. She asked when we were getting married and I told her sometime in December. She was like 'Oh ok so you have time to find a band.' And stupid me (who was all giddy and excited about being engaged) got confused and said 'Oh, we're not going to do a band, just a DJ' HAHA!! loser! I still get embarrassed when I think about it. WHAT WAS I THINKING??? I just wasn't used to a RING being called a BAND.

That's not stupid at all and the truth is that no europeans don't tip the same way in europe. When we went to Spain, dh was so confused about what to tip. We became real cool with the bartender at our hotel and she was asking us a lot of questions about NY bc she wanted to come here and even asked about how much money she can make bartending here, so i felt comfortable asking her and she told us that they don't tip a lot in europe and that she notices how much more americans tip when they come. She told us the average percentage which i think was 10% or less, and how some don't even tip. Bartenders also get paid differently, its not like here where basically everything you make is in tips so thats why i guess. We still tipped well though.
I've had too many stupid moments to think of one at the moment

That's funny b/c I have done things like that many times, you just don't think about it and you blurt out your first answer lol Like someone kept asking me what color our bathroom was in our new apartment, and I kept telling everyone 'green' but the tiles are beige/brownish colors and there isn't green anywhere in the bathroom. I just said Green b/c that's what colors I am using in the bathroom, towels, shower curtain, etc. I feel stupid b/c of that now lol
There are soo many moments where I just can't get it out of my head and will forever feel stupid b/c I can't go back and change/explain them lol

wow really??? I guess giving that guy what we gave him was really good then lol I didn't even think to look into that sort of stuff while we were there. In England people weren't so nice to us, and even though they spoke english it was a bit hard to understand them still and they lost patience with us alot . Oh well, next time. :)

That's not that terrible, I think we kick ourselves in the butt most of the time b/c we know what we meant, but no one else will and in turn you feel stupid for not explaining your reasons for thinking that way, at least that's how I look at it.

I had looked this up before we went, and found the same information. I wanted to make sure though and not just go by what advice sites say ya know but ended up being right lol. Awww that S*CKS that would annoy me. Everybody was so nice and great to us. I was worried in Monaco bc everyone says how rude they are to Americans, and at least in spain i was able to communicate, dh and i both know enough spanish to get by plus most spoke english. I took french many years ago but completely forgot it. We were both so pleasantly surprised because everyone was so nice to us, very friendly and helpful, we didnt get any attitude. Maybe in Monaco it is different from Paris though.

I wish I would've thought about looking up info on tipping, it just didnt cross my mind until we sat down for that lunch lol
In Paris people were nice to us, in England they weren't. In Paris the guy at our hotel was soo sweet, and even though I tried my best to speak French he still spoke English the whole time, so that was nice. I can't wait to go back again perhaps w/out DH so I can finally do some shopping. I got to go to Harrod's in England, but didn't buy anything b/c DH just wanted to rush through and get out of there. :( I missed out on the 'experience' lol We also didn't get to go to the big toy store b/c DH was being a BABY that day and decided that he wanted to get us lost and blame it on me lol
I think next time we go anywhere, I will deff be more prepared to not look like a jack@ss

hmmm I guess its just a myth what they say about the French towards Americans, the same way i guess they say all NY'ers are rude. It was funny bc i was so worried but the french were extremely nice. At our hotel we had the same waiter each time we ate there, after our first night he remembered our names, our room number and also what we both drank. The 2nd night when we ate there he said our drinks as soon as we sat down and said he'll bring it out, and then said our room numbers to confirm, i was impressed lol and he always was so nice and went out of his way, same with everyone else there.
I really want to go to London, mustve been an amazing trip to go to Paris and London at the same time.
LOL dh would be the one dragging me to shop at Harrods and i would be telling him to get out of there
yeah Frommers is real good for when you go away, they have info about everything.

That is really nice, we had a waiter in France that was so super sweet. He was trying to get a girl at another table to sit with us b/c she was cute and he said she spoke english lol It was just a nice dinner. I would go back to Paris before I go back to England ever again.
London was nice, beautiful in fact, and it was very easy to get around in, just like France was. I just liked France better b/c the culture is just sooo different from ours. People actually sit down and eat a meal, and actually sit lol We waited for our bill for almost an hour. It was nice to not eat and rush out, we sat, talked a bit, ate our food and had a really great night. It's so rare to be able to do that here in America. I felt like the english were a bit more snobish towards Americans and the French were very nice and willing to help us out.
Plus, France has the Louvre which is my favorite place in the whole wide world now. England has 'the london eye' and that's ehhh lol
DH wants to go do the tomato festival thing in Spain. I think that would be a cool trip, and I would love to experience their coulture anyway.
