which should we get? we'll be moving into our house on 2/14, and still can't decide which to get. we had cablevision in our condo, and personally, i hate cablevision, but we never had problems with it going out, or with customer service. living with the in-laws right now, we have Fios, and i really like it, but there have been issues w/ the DVR (never had DVR w/ cablevision), and we had a few problems w/ customer service when it was first being installed. anyone one have any insight as to which one they prefer? TIA!

Re: Fios or Cablevision
All I know is my DH cannot wait until Fios is available in our area, and he is really into all that stuff so for him to want it so bad it must be better than Cablevision!

Re: Fios or Cablevision
we had FIOS for our old apartment. the quality is great but they had to drill something to the side of the house and run wires through the gutter..we felt so bad cause we were only renting (we made sure our landlord gave the ok though)
thats the only downside to FIOS. the picture quality is great.
at our new place we have IO and i think it's just as good as FIOS (the HD channels anyway) and they didnt have to drill anything plus no contract! you can cancel anytime

my sil/bil have verizon fios. They are fine with it, but it was an 8 hour instal and they rip up your wireing so if they ever wanted to get cablevision back, they can't unless they pay for all new wiring. They do this on purpose to keep you from switching back I guess. And they have had problems with the fios with outages. But Im not sure how much that has happened.

i knew it was a long install, but i had no idea they rip out all your wiring. that's awful! but i can see why do it, even though i don't agree with it.

we did the FIOS deal triple play or whatever..it came to about $120 for all.... we had it for 2.5 years and still payed around that price...some months for no reason it would be $85?? i still dont know why that happened but we never called & complained
i pay about $110 for cablevision

Re: Fios or Cablevision
We were all set to get Fios and they screwed up the appointment and we were not waiting another few weeks to get TV so we canceled the appointment. I canceled it 3 times before they finally stopped calling us! We have had no problems with Cablevision.

Re: Fios or Cablevision
We switched to Fios for a month and switched back to cablevision. The fios on demand shows ALWAYS froze and our internet froze and booted us constantly.
When the guy came to uninstall it, he said its not wired properly in all areas of LI and a lot of people were having problems. Basically, he siad it shold not be offered in all areas.
On the other hand, I know some people who have it in other areas and love it. I'd check with the neighbors.

I think almost a year. they are locked into a 2 year contract. My parents have tons of channels though, so it could be that too, but my dad said it was so much cheaper to have cablevision and that he may go back

Re: Fios or Cablevision
thanks so much for your input!! i just check the fios website, and it says it's unavailable in our area. which is odd because BIL lives 2 minutes away and has fios (likes it, but prefers cablevision) so i thought for sure we would be able to get it. guess cablevision it is!

Re: Fios or Cablevision
Fios screwed me on the installation, confirming a time when I placed the order and then reconfirming a different time (adding another 4 hours). I cancelled the order and stayed with Time Warner, adding their internet service. I Get a better rate anyway, bulk for the TV since I live in a co-op..
I asked Fios questions about re-wiring since I already had Time Warner. Found out, they use the existing cables unless they are too old.
