We are invited to the wedding of a relatives of my DH, we like them a lot and really enjoy their compnay. They came to our wedding, and we've been to Florida for other weddings in their family.
We have been invited to a wedding on 5/29, which is the day after my DH's last day of work - he is being laid off.
We discussed our options last night and figured best case scenario it will cost us $1,000. Which seems a lot for just one night. We are trying to decide how important it is to s that we attend - and to them. $1000 is still a lot of money when the future seems somewhat uncertain
If someone had told me they could not attend our wedding form out of state for financial reasons, I would have been fine with that, but I now some people might be hurt
How would you have felt?

I actually had someone not attend our wedding for this very reason, the husband got laid off and they live in Arizona. Anyway I totally understood! I'd feel guilty if they came knowing the situation. They did send us a gift which I thought was incredibly nice.

I totally agree with Jennbaby....
You have to do what's right for you and your DH and your financial future. If your husband is being laid off and you know money is going to be tight...I would just let them know how much you want to be there and how much they both mean to you and then tell them the situation....
They will want what's best for you and hopefully will be very understanding....
Good Luck!

Im sure they will understand. I would just suggest explaining it to them and telling them exactly what you just told us. Im sure they wouldnt want you to put yourself in a bad financial situation in order to attend.

Re: Florida wedding
Honestly if this were me I would totally understand. It IS a big expense for you guys considering you guys are uncertain about your future.
We had a couple who lives right here in New York tell us they could not attend our wedding for financial reasons, and we accepted their reason.
I would just write a heart felt apology and send a gift.

I completely agree with all the other posters that you have to do what's right for you and you should NOT feel bad at all for it.
We went to a Florida wedding and spent considerably less than that, though. Granted, we only stayed the weekend but depending on where in Florida you're going it can be done pretty cheaply. Is it because it's Memorial Day weekend? Make sure to check out Jetblue, Southwest, and Spirit. Just wanted to give you all your options.

Re: Florida wedding
We had a bunch of people not come to the wedding because of them living out of state. I totally understood and really it stinks having to travel far for a wedding. We did a wedding in Rochester NY this past fall and it ran us close to 1,200 for the flight, hotel, car, food etc...everything adds up!
