FOLLOW UP question to Marriage License Concerns...

I posted earlier that I was worried that it was taking so long for my marriage certificate to come in from NYC. Thanks for your responses ladies, I feel a lot better!

One follow up question: Is my marriage certificate the document that I get from the Church that is like a fill in the blanks form with handwritten names in it? It says we were lawfully married with our names, the date, and our witnesses name written in. Is this the document I would use to change my name at social security or am I waiting for something that's actual from the city bourough I got married in...?

TY SO MUCH!

Re: FOLLOW UP question to Marriage License Concerns...

I was able to use the marriage license I got from the church to change my name at the social security office. However, when I went to DMV, they would not allow me to use that. I had to wait until I received the official one from the state. But I was able to use the one from the church to change my name at the banks though.

Yes, that helped a lot - THANK YOU!!! I was so confused, I wasn't even sure if there were two separate documents or if they were the same thing or what... THANK YOU!

I also was able to use the Church certificate at the SS office but not the DMV. I think the Church one is the marriage Certificate and the state one is the official marriage Lisence. (I think)
