My hubby bought me the most WONDERFUL PRESENT!!! FOOD SAVER!!! I cannot TELL you how exciting it is!
We buy EVERYTHING at Costco - so tons of stuff goes to waste - this makes bulk shopping make sense! I vacum packed salmon last night in the baggies and lettuce in the canister...We also buy cheese once a week at Alleva in Little Italy - and inevitably it goes bad....now it's vacum packed!
I was a crazy person - I thought Chrsi was going to kill me. I wanted to shrink wrap everything in sight!

We love our Food Saver too. We go to Costco also and then cut the meat up into smaller portions and freeze it.Its great.

ok...Im a kitchen gaget junkie!! I do not have a food saver! If you dont mind, would you tell me how much it costs??? I would really have to convince my husband that its worth it to buy it!! LOL

We also have one, and absolutely love it! It took us a while to get it to work properly (we're kinda on the slow side when it comes to gagets)
But now that we got the hang of it, it's awesome!!

I was just telling my DH that we should get one. We go to costco and buy a lot of meat there...I usually just separate them into zip locks but they get freezer burn.

Kathi question for you!
When you seal say cheese, and want to reopen it do you open it from the sealed edge that you made when you made the original bag? And then vacum it again? A little confused on how to re-use the bags....

OMG, my stepmother got this for my shower last year from an infomercial. I was totally not into it, and I found out how much it was! It sat in our closet until recently and DH pulled it out and started sealing everything. I'm still not into it, and wish it would disappear!

We have one and I love it.
I think that the vacuum sealing actually tenderizes the meat too. We get those giant packs of pork chops from Costco and the meat is definately more tender after it's been sealed as opposed to straight out of the pack.
1/2 the top tier of our wedding cake was vacuum selaed too so I guess we can REALLY see how well this thing works in 9 more months.
