What is the strangest thing in your new home, or the first thing that Has To Go?
I cant decide if its the Neon Blue vinyl tile and blue & silver wallpaper in the foyer or the carpet on the wall in the betroom .
The funny thing is the rest of the house is very nutural. I think the former owner just never got around to changing these two things.

In our apartment, the landlord has carpeted the inside of all of our cabinets and up the walls of our closets!

We have a neon green kitchen in the house we are buying. Totally ugly!!!! We are changing that RIGHT AWAY!

Me & my DH moved into our house a year before we were married -- the first thing that went was the bathroom sink fixtures -- which may not be a big deal, until you realize they were circular! Seriously -- they were perfectly round cyinders! How the hell are you supposed to grip these things to shut the water off when your hand is wet!!! It was a nightmare!
Thankfully, those fixtures are distant memories...

Re: For New Home Buyers - Strange Decorating Poll
Wow - I feel really lucky now - we needed a lot of TLC, but at least most of it was not so strange.
We do have the bathroom we call to OK Corral - totally lined with a dark barnwood that's got a light white-wash on parts of it. Complete with a tin replica of a horseshoe over the door (not even the real thing) Scary part is what's behind! Through the cracks, if you look real hard, you see this foil wallpaper with a pink-red-orange-gold paisly pattern - very 60's
I recall a neighbor years ago telling me how they painted one room lime green with black trim - his comment was, 'we thought it would look good, but it didn't' What were they smoking when they dreamed that one up!

My house was in beautiful shape. Although not necessarily my taste, I really didn't have much to complain about. The 1 and only thing was the pepto-pink sink and toilet in our master bathroom, which we unfortunately STILL have!

Hehe JenRenee! My townhouse will have pepto-pink carpeting in the LR, DR, hall, stairs, and Master Bedroom! That is going first! At least it is in good condition though.

That's the problem with our bathroom fixtures, Sasha... they're in such great condition that they're not a priority to replace!
That carpet sounds like a bit much! Who lived there before you??? A Mary Kay Lady?

Re: For New Home Buyers - Strange Decorating Poll
Our house was in livable condition when we bought it two years ago - if the year was 1960
However, nothing was a priority to go. The kitchen was redone 5 years before we bought it, which is a big money saver when you don't have to redo that. However, the bathroom in the master bedroom we did over first. It was baby blue - and I mean everything, right down to the floor, sink, toiler, tile, etc.
2 years later we're still working on it. We got rid of all the beige shag carpet and had the wood floors redone. It looks like a totally redone house.

Re: For New Home Buyers - Strange Decorating Poll
We bought our house 2 years ago, and it was dark paneling as far as the eye could see. We tore that down right away and painted everything a light color. You had to see the amount of glue they used. It was scary. Our house was built in the 70's when paneling was soo popular. The kitchen was redone shortly before we moved in, but we had to gut out and redo the bathroom. That was a horror as well. I can't even describe the wall paper that was in there. I think it had every color under the sun in it
