For those of you who have legally changed your last name....

Where did you start? I want to get the ball rolling on this but I am not sure what to do first. Do I change it on my license and SS card first? What process did you take during this transition. Any help would be appreciated!

I went to SS first and then DMV. Some people do it the other way around. My CC all I had to do was call them.

Don't forget to bring the title to your car as well to DMV - you have to change that too! And they'll take a new picture for your license.

I called all my credit card companys, some even changed my name before the wedding which was cool-most just take your word for it!

I went to DMV first, and then to SS. FYI-I didn't know that for DMV you have to bring the original marriage certificate--not the license.....that annoyed me! lol

I have changed everything but my SS card and my license.

The SS card you have to do in person because they need to see the original and the license is pointless for me because I will have to change it again when I move.

I went to DMV to change my license only. I didnt bother w/ title actually. Once I get my new license, I will then go to SS to change that, ---I will then be able to use my new license as proof of identity as well as the old.

And that is about it. Maybe a credit card or two, but its not a bad idea to have some credit cards kept in your maiden name.

I got SS card frist. I still have to change the lisence... been dreading that cause I like my photo... granted I was 21 and now I'm 31... but still...
