For those that changed their name...

How did you handle it? I am having trouble remembering, especially at work. I don't know if I should just change it and expect people to get used to it, or use both for awhile...
I keep answering my phone with my old name, I do a lot of paperwork and sometimes sign my old name, sometimes the new one- what did you guys do?

Re: For those that changed their name...

I am changing it legally but will still use my maiden name for correspondance at work. Well that's my plan if I ever get my butt to the social security office

Re: For those that changed their name...

I changed it completely. I am a little split this year-- kids from last year call me by my maiden name and this years kids call me mrs m.

I do mistakenly sign in with my maiden initials all the time. People understand. It takes time You have had that name for 20+ year and this one for 2 weeks. Give it time!

Re: For those that changed their name...

I have been using both for now until people are used to seeing the new name and I will eventually drop mine completely. But, I totally understand what you're saying because I keep getting confused also.

Re: For those that changed their name...

At work I go by my maiden name and at home and everything else I use my married name. I have been at my company for a long time and thought it would be confusing to change it here (I only changed it with payroll and on life ins and 401k and stuff like that).

I had a really hard time in regular life saying and using my married name for many months but a year later I am starting to get use to it. Now at work I have to think before I answer my phone so I say the right last name. I always pause before I say my last name to get it right! Also if I have a home contact call me at work, I confuse them because I am using my maiden name but it isn't too bad. I had to keep my maiden name somewhere....I hate losing it! If I leave this job ever, I would totally go over to my married name completely.

Re: For those that changed their name...

I changed it and used my new name at work. Its still hard to get used to being called by a new name. I think I pronounce it different everytime I say it.

I use my maiden name at work and go by his socially. All my paper work has both names on it.

Re: For those that changed their name...

I just changed mine officially at SS this week. I went to work and gave them the copy of the letter they gave me and changed it just like that! For the few weeks before I had the official paperwork (that my company requires) I added my new last on to my old in my email signature.

Then when I officially changed it I just use Jennifer HisLastName. I sent out a huge e-mail to the people I work with notifying them that I changed it.
