Did you have any issues with pre-cana and if so how was it handled? FI and I went to the opening meeting of pre-cana tonight, and we found out we can not do it this time around. They claim they are very accomodating, but when it comes to FI schedule (NYPD) they would not budge and told us to call the diocese of Rockville center to see what they can do. They basically pushed us out the door. FI and I went and complained about the way we were treated. We are SO agrevated, granted we have until Nov. to do pre-cana but unfortunatley due to his rotating schedule WHO knows if will ever work.

Re: For those whose DH is NYPD or FDNY
Found this under a pre cana search of the board! Hope it helps!!
That's HORRIBLE! My church was so accommodating of Patrick's schedule. He works a flex schedule where he makes his own hours every week, and set it so that he would be available for our pre-cana sessions, HOWEVER, as we all know, overtime and special details come up all the time, and he had to miss a session. The couple who ran our pre-cana canceled the session so that we wouldn't miss it, and we all made it up on a different day. The other 3 couples in our group suggested that they do that for us. We were so grateful!
Definitely discuss it with the diocese. Maybe you can do the weekend precana, (if your fh can get off on a weekend) and get it over all at once. I am so sorry that you are being treated this way.

Wow, what parish are you in. My husband is an officer in the Air Force and we did a private precane in a few hours with our priest. Our priest was awesome and his brother was recently depolyed on the USS Carl Vinson after 9-11 so he was very helpful. We meet with our priest alot, especially since we had to change our date and didn't know when we could do it, and then when we could we had three weeks.

Re: For those whose DH is NYPD or FDNY
Oh Boy! My DH is a police officer. We were lucky that when we did pre cana he had set days off due to the unit he was in but I know what you mean about the rotating shift. He is actually going back to it this week. It wasnt a problem for us, with the set days off and precana was only 4 weeks. Is he on days one week and nights the next? If so it is only a few weeks so maybe he could take personal time for the times you have it at night and and the times when he is on days you can make it. That was what we were going to do had we run into a problem. Good luck!

Re: For those whose DH is NYPD or FDNY
My DH is also NYPD and the only problem I had was that I had asked to be put in an all day Sat. and that I needed to know which one it would be. At the time, he was rotating so I had to make sure it was a weekend where he didn't have to be until the night. I think that's awful that they are giving you a hard time. It's not like you guys don't have a good reason!! That makes me very mad!

Re: For those whose DH is NYPD or FDNY
Thanks for the support ladies. I made it perfectly clear last night when we went back to see thpriest (he was there coaching a volley ball game) That I was completely disgusted by the way we were treated. I have made a few calls to the diocese and a few other parishes in the area and i think one of the times may actually work for us in another parish. So keep you fingers crossed that it is not full. Thank you again for all your help.
