Former Girl Scouts...
When you have children, are you going to get involved in scouting again?I've been doing some programs at my library with a few brownie troops, teaching them how to use the internet, and its been fun.
I've thinking that if I had a girl and she wants to join brownies maybe I'll try to be a leader.
Anyone else?

Re: Former Girl Scouts...
I was never too thrilled with being a GC - it was kinda boring to me, but I liked being a Brownie! Now that I know we're having a daughter I will probably see if she wants to participate....but I don't yet know too much about it.
I was always pretty shy as a child and never really 'forced' to do many things, so I want to make sure my children have a lot of opportunities to meet people and do fun things. Hopefully they won't be a painfully shy as I was

o I was a brownie and a girl guide, never a scout. But I would definitely want my kids to be one too, FH was a boy scout.

I'd just hope things have changed since my GS days.....I remember going to the supermarket with our leader for a day of learning how to buy the most for your dollar......talk about stereotypes!!!
I also remember going camping though out East, which was really fun

Teri...I know what you mean. SOmetimes the things we did in GS WERE so corny!I remember one year though my mom was the cookie mother. All of the cookies that were sold by the troop came to my house to be distributed to the girls who sold them. When I came home from school and saw all those boxes it was like Cookie Wonderland! I didn't want to let any of those boxes leave the house!

I was involved in Girl Scouts till I was 16. There were some corny things we did but we did have fun too. I would like my daughter (if we have one) to participate in Girl Scouts.

I lasted one year in brownies...it wasn't my thing...I don't think I want my children involved in it either...unless they change some of their rules and regulations...they are pretty discriminating...

i was a girl scout. i enjoyed it back then, but i really wonder if their program has changed with the times!! one of my college professors was now telling me her daughter is doing a MATH badge - that never would have happened 20+ years ago!!!!

Re: Former Girl Scouts...
I was a Brownie, but I was kicked out of my troop. I lived in a predominately white area and the troop leaders daughter called me the N word and I punched her in the nose. They told my mother not to bring be back!! I actually did not enjoy the experience because no on wanted to talk/play or do crafts with me anyway.

Re: Former Girl Scouts...
Crisco718...That S**ks! The troop leader should be ashamed of herself for asking your mom not to bring you back! Her daughter is the one who should have not been in the troop!I was looking at the handbook for Browmnie badges and they have a lot of up-to-date badges for the girls now. A lot different from when I was little!
I think its now more about empowering little girls and getting them interested in subjects that some girls tend to shy away from...Math and Science.

That is absolutely disgraceful
It should have been the OTHER girl kicked out of the club....but at least you got some revenge with that punch.

The other girl was not kicked out because her mom was the troop leader. I got over it. It is funny because I did not get along with that girl all the way through high school!! She never changed.

Re: Former Girl Scouts...
I liked Girl Scouts for about a day. We went on a camping trip and all I remember is this girl in our cabin peeing in her sleeping bag-the smell of that cabin.... and another girl getting rushed to the camp nurse because she had tick bites all over her. I don't think scouting was for me so much...
