Foster Care

Does anyone know anything about foster care? I have a few questions about taking in a foster child but I can't seem to find the answers anywhere so if anyone works in this field or has any info please let me know! TIA!!!

that is very noble that you are considering taking in a foster child. I have no first hand experience only that a lot of my students were in foster care when I worked with the DOE. Unfortunately, my experience with the system was not a very positive one, as a lot of the kids were essentially an income rather than a member of the family.

Good luck to you!!

Thanks!! I feel like I would really love to help a child to make there life better I might need the money that they would give to help support the child but not to just have for myself. I know people do that and I can't believe they would not care about the children involved!!

I really need to find out some specific questions though so if anyone can help it would be really appreciated!!

Sorry I cant help but I just wanted to say that is really amazing of you to consider adopting a foster child, I've heard so many negative things about the American foster care system, and for a child in the system to be given a permanent and loving home is just a miracle for them

Maybe you can do a google search and find a foster care forum.

I don't know much about the systme. My Aunt is a foster parent and thanks to her I have 2 more cousins that I should have...as she was able to adopt them after a few years They are still very timid which makes me sad BUT they are very well loved. My aunt has had quite a few children taken from her after the parents 'get better' and I will say that's the hard part of being a foster parents.

I know I'm not much help but I think it's noble and great of you to even think of doing it.

Thanks! I know that must be so hard to say goodbye but if you can give the child a better life in the mean time I guess its worth it! I know someone who has done foster care for years and has adopted like 6 kids and I think its great. I feel like it could be my way of doing something to make the world a little better..I know that sounds a little corny but thats how I feel!

My question is actually about getting a specific child..long story short its my BIL niece and I would love to take her in but she has been placed with another family and I want to see if I could qualify to get her. I don't know if they would take her out of the home she is in to be placed with me I know they will try to place them with family but I don't know if I would be considered family

i don't know much about this - but is this something a social worker could answer?

If so - there's an 08 bride who just graduated and got a job as a social worker...and she's a good friend & wonderful person - she'd be happy to help..if she can!!!

Re: Foster Care

On one of those sites there was a section about being a relative and wanting to take a foster child who is related to you. There might be a number to call there.
