Ok so we have been loooking at furniture for awhile now. So never mind who the furniture is made by...... We dont know if we should get the best stuff now and hope that it fits where ever we go and pay it off in 4 years becasue it is costly. Get cheaper stuff that we can afford now and just get better stuff when we get house. Just used whatever anyone gives us and get a new matress. Buy one room for the better stuff and not bother with the other room?
What would you do?

Re: Furniture help
I wouldnt buy anything that I could not entirely pay for right now. I don't think I could sleep comfortably in a new bed knowing it hasn't been paid for yet. Plus over the course of four years its going to cost you MUCH MORE than the actual tag price when you factor in finance charges.

Re: Furniture help
most furniture places do have 0%apr for a period of time so if you can pay it off before that do it

Oh no we would pay it off in the 4 years so there would be no intrest rates at all. Just another bill.

There's no interest for four years? I guess that's good but we just dont make big purchases until we have the money in our checking account to cover it.

Re: Furniture help
We bought our den furniture from R&F when we first closed on the house. We had the $$ to pay for it but they were offering 3 years no interest so we financed it - better the money stays in our account and we get interest then them.
We could pay it off tomorrow if we wanted to but if they're going to give us the money for free - make 'em wait.
That being said, I'd get what you really NEED now and wait to get a house before you get the rest. You want to make sure that whatever you buy is going to fit in your 'real' place.

We do have it but, Id rather have it in the savings for the 'just in case' things.

This is how I feel now but, then I hear the ' what if you dont get a house in 3 yrs or dont get one at all' and this is what has made me scared.

Re: Furniture help
In the two homes we own we bought new for some rooms & we got some from family in others. However, once we buy the 3rd house im buying new for every room except the Master bedroom since that is brand new. However, i would NOT buy new if i cant buy it outright. Unless you have 5 yr interest free or something like that. I refuse to pay interest on anything. lol
I say if you can find a great deal on new then buy 1 room at a time. But if you can get from family or friends & its in great shape take it. IF its your taste.

Re: Furniture help
DH & I were just faced with this same dilemma for our bedroom furniture.
At first we wanted to go cheap (stuff you have to put together). But then we figured we would put a lil more to it and get a little better quality.
We're still in an apartment & we dont have nor do we want to spend $$$$ for new furniture...We stayed far far away from R&F....
So instead we had a budget & stuck to it. The furniture we chose isnt top of the line...but its solid wood & should hopefully last us a good 10 years or so.

Re: Furniture help
We had couches in the living room of our apartment that were from my friends' parents... we were going to put them in the basement of our new house and they didn't fit down the stairs! So I would def say just take whatever you can get for your apt and maybe buy a few nice things, and then when you get a house buy more new stuff.
I have a coffee table if you want it.
