FYI: Changing name

If you still need to change your name legally...

Go to www.ssa.gov

Find the name change form.
Print it, fill it out and mail it (along with your marriage license) to the nearest office (you can look up the address right on the site)
(They send your marriage license back ASAP)
You should get your new card in about a week or so.
I did this and it was wonderful! Just thought I'd let you all know because I have never seen anyone do it this way! :)

thanks for sharing! I think I will try this also especially since the ss office is only open M-F from 9-4 and I happen to work M-F 9-4! Ugh!

I read about this, but I'm nervous to send in the original documents. Worst case, I could always have a new marriage certificate sent to me, right?

It's frustrating - the nearest SSA is 5 blocks away from me, but I'd have to take yet more time off of work!
