I'm not planning on it yet .. but it's in our near future (3 years or so). But I read some posts on how it is hard to conceive and I was wondering if it's because of birth control. I heard that you should go off it after 3 years or so for about 6 months and then you can go back on. Is that true? Just thinking about the future and thought I'd throw this question out!

Re: Gettin pregnant ...
not really sure what your ? is.. after being on for three years you feel you need to be off for 6 months - to like- cleanse your system- and then go back on- but not to get preggo during those 6 months....????
I was on birth control for about 4 years- due to medical conditions- and was off only about 2 months b4 getting preg...and I am 35 so I THOUGHT it may take longer.

Re: Gettin pregnant ...
My GYN told me that you should stop taking the birth control about 6 months before you start trying, but she also said to be prepared to 'get pregnant in that time' she said bodies are diffrent and it could take up to six months to get back on track after being on the pill for a while!.. hope that answered your question.

I have also heard of doctors presrcibing the pill for women who are having trouble getting pg, because often the month after she goes off the pill, she becomes pg.
I've heard that the Depo shot is the pne that takes 18 months to get pg once off..
any one get the shot...Im so sick of taking pills

I also hated taking pills (I was on the pill for 6 years and consistantly forgot to take it, had to double up pills and was then sick to my stomach all day) so I stopped as soon as I got married. I figured now that we are married a little 'oops' wouldn't be as big of a deal.

Re: Gettin pregnant ...
I just had a pre-conception appt with OBGYN and she said you want to allow about two cycles off of the pill to get back on track, just so it is easier to 'try' to get pregnant. But if it happens that you get pg in that timeframe it is okay b/c you don't really have to clense your body of the pill.
She said if the amount of drug in the pills was really that strong we woulnd't have to take it everyday. So it's more of a planning element to stop taking the pill and wait a few cycles to try to conceive.
You hear different stories everywhere though.

Re: Gettin pregnant ...
Thanks everyone ... what great and quick responses. Rob and I are not looking to have a baby yet, but I've been on for about 2 years and heard about the 3 year mark - plus, you hear how it could be very hard or very easy to get pregnant -so I was being more cautious with my question! Thanks again! Erica ... I, too, hate taking those pills and am more like Jennifer - and forget to take them, double up and then I'm sick. But lately, I've been pretty good. If you get anymore information on the shot -let me know! Thanks!

I'm on the shot
and I love it. I haven't had my period in 4 and a half years and I can't think of any side effects. I get it at Planned Parenthood-I have regular medical insurance but it's still cheaper there!
Any questions please feel free to ask.

Re: I'm on the shot
I wanted to take the depo shot, went to my GYN a while back, and there were aot of side effects that i was uneasy about.. like some women experience facial hair growth, and also your period just stops.. I am a complete worry wart!! i was afriad to take this and in a couple of years someone say that the women who took this form of BC could have problems of concieving...have you tried the female condom, or the diahram...not the best methods but at least they are safe...
