Getting a Real Estate License...Where do I begin ?
Hi ladies,
This is something i've thought alot about doing, either part time or just to try out, ever since I was house hunting for my home 2 yrs ago. Since i'm now unemployed, I figured, what better time.
Does anyone know where I go/call to apply to take the exam? How do you go about getting into the field as a beginner ? Does anyone have first-hand experience about what its like to work in this field ? Im sure very tense, and extremely competitive... I just wanna give it a shot....
Any feedback, good or bad, is welcome !
Thanks !
:)

You might try by calling some local real estate offices and asking them if they are hiring - get a feel for your potential opportunities. Then ask them about getting licensed. They may have their own program they can hook you up with.

Ahhhhhh, my forte.... (longgggggg)
You are required to take a 45-hour class and pass the class exam. Many colleges offer the class as well as 'real estate institutes' (the class price will vary from about $200 - $600, depending on where you take it!).
You also need to pass the state exam. You can do either one first, although, it makes sense to take the class first since it prepares you for the state exam. :) You need to have both for licensing.
Almost all of the big RE companies are always hiring. Frankly, there`s a lot of turnover in this business since it`s strictly (usually) commission-based.
It`s EXTREMELY competitive. But, it`s also interesting and very flexible! If you have time to learn the business and can live w/o a 'paycheck' for several months (closings typically take 2 or 3 months) then it`s a great opportunity!
I`m leaving Manhattan real estate when we close on our house (several months away!). I really don`t want to stay in this business due to the uncertainty, but it`s very nice to have something to fall back on since there are always jobs in real estate.
Good luck and if you have any questions, don`t hesitate to ask!!
