I'm just curious... I heard from someone that wedding guests have up to one year after the event to buy a gift for the bride and groom. Is this true?

Re: Gift Etiquette
We had two married couples that didnt give us a gift and told us they were waiting until we got home from our honeymoon. Well, we have been home for three months. I would be shocked if we received a gift at this point. Could you believe that people actually come to weddings without even a card? Very hard to believe, especially the way new yorkers are with weddings. I never heard of it!

Re: Gift Etiquette
Maybe its just an excuse that non gift givers like to use.... and then they think you'll forget all about it by the time a year has passed!!!

Yes, I think you are right or maybe they think with all the people at your wedding that you wont notice that they didnt give. Did you have alot of these rude people at your wedding?

Re: Gift Etiquette
Technically guests do have up to one year. I have gotten 2 gifts post- wedding from non-attending gifts. I think after 4 months it is a bit rude but technically they have one full year.

Re: Gift Etiquette
I am embarrassed to say that two of the people who have not given gifts yet were actually in the bridal party.

Re: Gift Etiquette
Yep! It was a friend of mine who Patrick doesn't particularly like. He had been gleefully calling her the 'No-Gifter' for months (not to her face, of course!), and was upset when the gift came and he couldn't refer to her as that any more.

Re: Gift Etiquette
I am lucky...everybody that came to my wedding sent me a gift. Even those that didn't get to show up at the end. I am still receiving gifts from people that had replied they weren't coming from the beginning.

Re: Gift Etiquette
I didn't think bridal party HAD to give gifts. Mine all did, but I didn't expect anything. They spent so much $$ already!
We are still waiting for 1 straggler gift giver.

Re: Gift Etiquette
Scott's best friend (part of the BP) gave us a card with a note that he forgot his checkbook at home and to expect something when we got home from our HM. Still nothing. And my FIL didn't even give us a card or even say thank you to me for inviting him to the RD and wedding. Nothing from him.

Re: Gift Etiquette
I never heard of people giving gifts after the wedding. We did have a few people not even give us a card.

I guess this is what some people do, who knows. I think it is a little tacky though.

Re: Gift Etiquette
We still have three no-gifters. No cards, no nothing. They just showed up and left.
Some of these people were hung over because they were drunk the night before the morning wedding.
