How do you girls think you did in terms of $$$ you received back in the form of gifts? Did you expect more/less or about right?

Re: gifts
We didn't do as well as I expected. We had 13 people not show after RSVP of yes. Still haven't heard from most of them. This made me so mad!!! We gave the caterer $1300 more than we needed to. With these people not showing and sending no gifts by the way, it just wasn't what I would have expected.

Re: gifts
I got a little more than I thought I would get overall - but that is because of a very generous few. Most people gave what I expected them to give. And a few people gave us very little or gave us nothing at all.
In the end, the gifts didn't come close to paying for the wedding but I never expected them to so that is okay with me.

Re: gifts
We had someone not give us a card or anything which was odd, how do you deal with that???
Most people gave more than expected and that wound up covering the people who gave way less. All is all, we made out which was great!
We got a little less than we thought...but the gifts were just 'icing' since the wedding was paid for...not including the nice chunk form my parents that went to the reception hall...

Re: gifts
Not sure if I should even be asking this, but what would you say is a ballpark average of gift amounts per couple/guest that you received? I have no idea what to expect...

Re: gifts
ours kind of varied but I think the majority of checks we got were for $300 per couple. $250 ws the next popular and then $200. That was mostly the lowest people went. There were a few real low ones though... And we got some of those 'no gifters' too. I have no idea what you're supossed to do w/that. Part of me wants to ask if they forgot the gift...... What do you do? I don't know if I'm supossed to ask this either, but what was the ballpark of your total gifts? We were around $25K. Is that a lot? Average? Not a lot? I have no clue!!

Re: gifts
The average couple gave about $250...but we had several people give closer to $100 and several people give closer to $1000. So it all depended on who they were and what they could afford. The only people I was really upset about were those that we gave BIG to at their wedding and they gave practically nothing. The ones who actually gave nothing don't bother me as much as those schmos.
But the one thing I did do is write it all down....and I will refer to that list in the future when I need to determine how much to shell out.

Re: gifts
We had very generous guests. We ended up receiving more than double what we had thought we would receive.

Re: gifts
i never thought I would get stiffed on gifts, but I did on two....both invited from out of state. One gave just a card, and the other nothing. the one that gave nothing was invited with his wife, and had the nerve to ask me if he could bring his friend tom instead...then not even a card! mind you we invited all of our out of towners to brunch the next day on us, and they all showed up! We got several $100 from couples and $150's, but many people were very generous. We spent about 21,000 on the hall and got about 23,000 in gifts (this includes 5,000 from his parents). All in all we spent about 33,000 on the wedding.
