Re: girls who dont own a house

I feel the same way, especially since I had to cut to part time work and most of my money that I make goes to doctor bills.

DH & I are looking to re-locate off the Island. Sadly, I don't see a home for us here, really.

Re: girls who dont own a house

All the time... DH and I want to be out of our condo in 2 years... but if I'm honest about it.. It'll probably be 4 to 5 years before we could do anything.

I hate it.. definately sucks

Re: girls who dont own a house

i'm in a similar boat ... i bought a co-op about 5 years ago and it's actually gone down in value ... if i sell it, i'd lose money (and i can't rent it out for the same price i'm paying) ... so i can't buy anything yet either. it's very annoying because DH and I would love to be in a house now

Re: girls who dont own a house

DH and I were born and raised in Manhattan, so used to renting..but we dont want the extra expenses that come with a house. But at the same time its a good opportunity. We are undecided

Re: girls who dont own a house

I feel the same exact way - and the hardest thing is trying to figure out WHERE we would even want to live! He grew up in Westchester, me on LI, but I don't feel strongly about staying. The thing is, he works in Manhattan and we live in Queens as a middle point for me to drive to work (in Bethpage) and him take the train to the city. But we don't want to buy in Queens, so it's really hard because even though we don't have money to buy yet (which seems like we never will), we can't decide on an area...

Re: girls who dont own a house

I know!

We went to a financial planner last week and it was both inspiring and depressing lol. He walked us through what we were spending where and where we could cut--he told us we could definitely afford a house...in FOUR YEARS!!

Re: girls who dont own a house

Yes I feel very much frustrated that it will not happen for some time.. but still optomistic that it will happen eventually. but many things have to happen between now and then.

(get better paying jobs, live in 1BR with a baby, move home with parents, etc etc etc)

Re: girls who dont own a house

As a present owner and renter of the past..there are pros and cons to each scenario. Don't worry about it. Enjoy where you are. You'll get there! If not, lots of couples rent..even older ones!

Re: girls who dont own a house

What frustrates me is how little you get for your money nowadays. If you work hard to save up your down payment you end having to pay an enormous amount of money for a house that isn't really that great. When I see what people get in other parts of the country I want to cry.,

Re: girls who dont own a house

I am so happy this was posted bc you are not the only one. DH is going back to school and due to Budget Cuts in my school district come June, i'll be out of a job as well. I feel like it will never happen. We are considering moving to FL if things don't change but I really really don't want to do that.

Re: girls who dont own a house

unless i get a high paying job ... i dont think we'll be able to stay here.

and honestly i dont have much desire to.

we are saving little by little and i feel like maybe in 5-7 years we'll move away.

its hard to bother thinking about staying knowing that in michigan right now... i could buy a pretty amazing house for under 100k

its ridiculous.

the street i grew up on has houses all up and down it for sale for like 70k right now because of the economy and they're like full basement, big yarded, 3 bedroom houses. INSANE.
