What are you doing to try to get to that point? DH and I saved for our wedding and payed most of it but ended up having to take out a loan at the end... Unfortunately the money we got from the wedding went towards that, the second wedding we had to go to in Florida which was more expensive than I thought it would be and our honeymoon...so we are left with nothing at this point. Now we are kind of back at square one and trying to get back on our feet to save for a house but it is like a never ending battle! Sometimes it feels like we will never get there. And with our monthly bills on top of trying to save it feels like we almost just make it and we both do well so it's even more frustrating! Sorry I am having one of those days...

Re: Girls who don't yet own a house...
Saving is really important to have a nice downpayment but at the same time try to bring your debt down. Underwriters look at the entire picture. How many credit cards you have? how much is your monthly payment? How many times have you been late? For those who have car payment and are almost close to paying it off. If you have less than a year payment left that does not go against you. So, try your best to get to that point. If you can't that is still no biggie. But, they want to see you have bills and you can AFFORD a mortgage. They are so many rules now and it's so hard to be qualified for a mortgage. Hang in there you can do it!

We want a house sooooo bad, we've wanted one for a while. Paying off DH credit cards and our honeymoon didnt leave us with much. We are in an apartment and are dying to get out. We've been there 3 yrs and the thought of being there another 2 years is awfulllll. DH doesnt even want to think about kids until we can afford a house . We barely go out and kept our bday gifts minimal and are doing the same for the holidays.
We just hang with family and friends at each others homes mostly and try to save as much as we can. I try not to eat out and we bring our lunches to work. We pretty much try to cut back our expenses as much as possible.
On the plus side it looks like the price of houses are coming down. Hopefully when we can afford one they will be even lower

It's so important to have your finances in order. Once you have a house you don't have that disposable income anymore. And once the children come
We aren't in bad shape, but there is definately room for improvement! That's what we are working on now.

Re: Girls who don't yet own a house...
DH and I are saving like crazy or at least trying to, with hard times all around our families are skipping the xmas gifting and just getting together to enjoy each others company, so that will help... we actually managed to pay off the entire wedding the same month as the wedding so all our gifts went straight into the savings account, we have about 25k saved so far but DH and I both have our own businesses, so our true income that the bank sees makes us look kinda poor which is not the case at all but for tax purposes this is the situation we are in.... so in addition to saving about another 10k we need to step our income levels
i have no idea how this whole situation is going to work out but i have faith it will, and we can save up that kinda money i know all you ladies can do it to...
we just have to be frugal, smart shoppers, and pennypinchers, and honestly lay low on the party scene and our time will come....
good luck to everyone

We are actually now in contract we have been looking for a while and havent found anything we REALLy wanted, and while we were looking we were stashing away money....you really get a reality check once you get out there and go through the process to see where you need to be at and what you need to do to prepare.....what you can afford.
