someone help. Our dog that we rescued went into heat 2 DAYS BEFORE HER VET APPT TO BE SPAYED. shes 5, shes been bred before.. this isnt her first cycle. I was told she was last in heat back in Mar/Apr. Apparently not...
anyone have experience with dogs in heat? I am so confused and totally unprepared
i have a call out to my cousin (a vet tech) until then, someone please- before I go crazy

They go in heat when they have their period. I think it's every 3 to 6 mnths. (not so sure about the time frame, but if you see her licking herself you know where you would know she is in heat). Plus that is the only time they get prego.

doggie diapers come in handy - esp if you have light colored carpets. or you can buy regular ones and cut a hole for the tail or just follow her around with a towel/keep her contained. just make sure you watch her when you let her out as she might get away and also watch her around the boy dogs - unless you want more puppies on you hands.
