Going to Social Sec tomorrow morning!

WHOA!!!

Then off to the icky gross annoying DMV.

Gonna do those 2 big ones and go from there. Advice?

I guess work would be next...?

They both suck - I found DMV to be better than Social Security...wish I would have done Social Security first. DMV took me about 40 minutes and SS took over an hour.

DMV took close to an hour....found there was some outstanding ticket I have to satisfy that I'm still working on....so ICK.

Haven't even gone to SS yet....went there once in my life, never want to go back.

Go to SS as soon as they open. The one in Queens opens at 7 am- I was in and out in 5 min. I then went to DMV when that opened at 8;30 (got on line around 8) Was out of there by 9.

this is how i did stuff (and i'm still working on it)

-did SS first - took about 45 min. I went last Tuesday, and got my new card in the mail yesterday! work wouldnt let me change til I had the new card so I'm doing that today
-did DMV second, took about 1.5 hrs (still waiting for new license)
-did most CC's over the phone
-did health insurance over the phone (and fax)
-did bank on Monday- had to go in with marriage certificate
-doing my professional licensure today
-then in the next couple weeks I'll do my passport

I went to SS on Tuesday... (had the form from online filled out)... and it took all of 40 minutes including wait time. The office by me said they open at 9am... I got there at 8:45am and there were people there already who had pulled their numbers to wait - so I'd suggest to go early..

Did DMV on Mon - longest wait time was 20 min at the initial line - whole thing took 35 min (again, I had all the forms filled out from online ahead of time).

I went to SS in West Bab in August at like 11 a.m....waited for just about 2 hours....that place is interesting....

I went to the DMV in Hauppauge when I was off for Veteran's Day and was out in less than an hour.

FYI: the DMV asked for my new SS card so I was glad I did that first

Okay so work has gotten in the way and I am just finally able to get to SS before the lunch madness.

QUICK QUES...I have all of the IDs and stuff but in terms of a 'marriage certificate' is it the document that says 'Certificate of Marriage REGISTRATION'.....???

I don't wanna get there and have someone tell me I brought the wrong thing. Ours says 'registration' on it...is this right?

pretty sure thats it! did it come in the mail from the city/state? if so then yes you;re fine! and as long as its the original and it says the words 'certificate of marriage' on it and has your new surname listed, you're good to go!
