I had mine done at a dry cleaner near my mom's house in Selden. They did a great job, as far as I can tell. Truthfully, I really don't know what to look for, but everything is neatly packaged, and the price was right($200), so I'm happy. : )
I went to a dry cleaners in Selden.
JennRenee, which one did you use? Maybe its the same one, LOL
My friend's mom works there, so I am paying $120.
They did both my gown and my headpiece.
My mom took it to a drycleaner (name escapes me right now) on the Queens/Nassau border. Cost was $130.
They clean and box it using several layers of protective 'stuff' (not really sure of the technical material names)
I used Stylon Cleaners (Tom Marino is the owner) on Merrick Road in Baldwin (right across the street from Lillette's Bridal). He is super sweet, and did a great job. It cost $150.00
The cleaner I used is Shawny. I used to get all my clothes dry cleaned there. They are Such nice people!! : )
Is it the same place you went to? How funny would that be?!
Actually, I dont remeber the name I took it too. It is on Middle Country Road in Selen in the Bob's Shoping Center.
Okay, close, but not the same. : ) I took mine tp the shopping center right next to the one you went to, where Home Depot and King Kullen are.
In a Bridal magazine, no less!! I was at the hair salon... Anyway, there was an article on the correct preservation of the gown and that some places don't use the right boxes and it turns them yellow... They talked about finding a place that cleans wedding dresses only. Listen for all I know it was a paid advertisement!!! Anyway, they listed someone in Great Neck and I'm may try them. They use some special paper from France and use museum quality packaging to preserve it... They digitally photograph your dress and replace any item they comes off of the dress during the process...
Now here's the disclaimer for this one...for all i know about this topic this article could be a hunk of gunk:-)!!! I have no idea, but my gown was hand made so I'm going to do a bunch of research on it before I drop it off!!!

P.S. I really didn't get it that dirty either...I only dropped one thing on it:-)!!!
I have read many things on gown preservation - whether you should have it vacuum sealed, or be able to take it out (wearing gloves) to re-fold it every 6 months or so. It's anyone's guess. But, Stylon told me that they use non-acid papers to stuff the dress, and they seal it, so that it's not exposed to air and dust that could yellow it.
The important thing is that you get it cleaned properly - some stains are not visible now, but can become damaging over time. For instance, perspiration can rot your dress, if it's not properly cleaned. I prespired so much in my dress that I couldn't wait to take it off at the end of the evening!
Also, the bottom of the dress was black from dragging the floor all night.
Good luck!
