Greeting guests at reception.

Greeting guests at reception.

I've been reading alot on the the Brides board about greeting each and every guest and visiting every table with your husband.

I wanted to know what you girls ended up doing because they are giving me a terrible guilt trip.

My husband and I did not greet each and every guest, though we did mingle around both during cocktail hour and the reception, had a long receiving line at the church, and saw most people on their way out.

Most of the brides are saying how its incredibly rude and poor taste not to see each and every guest at their table. Is it that they just have good intentions? Did you all get see everyone? I couldn't pin my husband down if I wanted to, plus we danced, and we ATE our dinner! Was this so wrong? Do you think people are thinking bad of us? I did actually feel a little bad towards the end of the night when my husbands boss came over to us on the dance floor and his wife said 'Boy its had to get a hold of you two!' Like we were avoiding them.

Sorry rambling.....

If you had a receiving line you should not feel guilty. If you don't have one you should try to see most guests. I didn't have a recieving line so I made an attempt (by myself - my husband was partying :-) and saw as many as I could. I really dind't eat and I danced a lot though. People really were okay with it. And many came up to me to say hello. And really guests should come up to you as well. When you have over 100 guests it's really difficult to say hello to them all. Most guests understand. So don't feel guilty.

We thought it was important to go around and enjoyed greeting everyone. But at this point, you are married and it is in the past so don`t let anyone`s comments make you feel guilty, it`s not worth the bad feelings and I`m sure it was just fine. I have been at weddings where they didn`t and I didn`t take it personally. :o)

Greeting guests at reception. Whats Done is Done

There is nothing you can do about it now so there is no use feeling guilty, bad or anything negative.

If you were married very recently and there are a few prople in particular you feel you missed you may want to call them to say how happy you were that they were able to join you. Other than that you will be sending out thank you notes expressing your pleasure with your guest attendance and gratitude for their gift.

Kate - we did the same thing as you!

And no one seemed to mind. Our day, our money, our party as far as we were concerned. That's why we mingled at our cocktail hour rather than hide away in a room somewhere. No way were we going to miss the party walking around to each and every table!! Call us selfish, but we had the best night and enjoyed everything. Not one of our guests seemed bothered. They made a point of grabbing us if they wanted to! Don't feel bad...everyone got a personalized thank you note too, right? I'm happy we did it that way!

Thanks Lee! Umm no thank yous aren't out yet, but as soon as I get them I swear I'll start writing!

LOL! Sorry Kate!

Didn't realize you didn't even have your thank yous yet!! But when you do, that personal note will be worth a lot to everyone! And what a relief when they are done!

My husband and I did the best we could in between eating and dancing. We started going around together, but then split up so at least one of us would talk to each guest. We made our thank you's very personal, bringing up something they told us while we made our rounds(so they knew that we paid attention to them)and expressed how we would have like to have spent more time with them at the wedding.

I`ve heard many older family members say at my cousins weddings ' I love seeing the bride enjoy herself.' When they got married...with much less people and for a much lower price they said hello to everyone and it was considered rude to go up to the bride, the bride was to come around. These days the bride dances and has fun, and people enjoy seeing a happy bride. More people get to dance with the bride-and that`s quality time also. That`s what makes the wedding fun and special. And it sounds like you did speak to a lot of people, at natural times, not just trying to have small talk with each table for under 3 mins each. I hope you feel very hapy now with the way you handled your wedding-you spoke to people at the beginning and end, and had time in the middle for eating and dancing! That`s my goal at my wedding!

Thanks Jamie!

I feel better. And for the most part that how the night went! I am soooo bad at small talk I just avoid it all together. Very uncomfortable for me to walk over to a table and be like 'Ok I have 2 mins to talk, stop what you're doing and tell me what happened in all your lives recently'. Now to get those tahnk yous out!

Kate - I have felt bad too...

I didn't do a receiving line (short on time) however, I did a receiving cocktail hour - when we were done with our pictures my husband and I both went inside and went around seperatly to greet everyone - my intentions were to go around to the tables but - some how the next thing I knew the wedding was over - it went so fast - and I felt bad for not going over to a few of the older guests (anyone on the dance floor saw me) but I did not go around to collect the gifts (everyone came up to us at the end) or just put it on my table) I enjoyed our wedding and I guess I was doing what I really wanted but I too have a little guilt (I guess you can't look back without any regrets) it was just to much to do and not enough time to do it all!

Stop worrying about it....

I did go around to every table, and I was rushing and hurrying up doing it because there was a good song on and I wanted to go out and enjoy myself and my wedding!! I was about 4 tables ahead of my DH and then I left him when I was done and went to dance. Actually one of my cousin's grabbed me to get on the dance floor because he wanted me to enjoy myself. He told me that he was so glad he didn't go around to everyone at his own wedding because it took away from it. Every one feels differently about it. But if I were you, I wouldn't keep worrying about it because it's done and you can't change it. Besides, everyone who was there should understand!!! When I got back from my honeymoon I called up some people who I hadn't had time to talk to, etc., and they were totally understanding and knew that I couldn't be there chatting w/everyone the whole night. They were glad to have a good time and see me have a good time. Your friends will understand, your older relatives might b****, but they'll get over it!!!

When was your wedding? I still didn't do my thank you's either!!! Don't have them yet!
