Grocery - Store Brand or Other....

I'm curious... I went grocery shopping this week and spent $120 buying all type of stuff.. Now with SS living with us I have to buy more snacks and juices for his leisure.. Well I know how picky DH is with well known brands vs. store brand. I totally went all out on the store brand becuase its all the same stuff!!! Wheat Bread, Corn, etc etc... I do buy lots of juices 'Dole, Minute Maid, etc' generic every day stuff I will go all out on and buy store brand..

So when you go grocery shopping, do you buy lots of store brand vs. well known brand??

I buy a mixture of both, certain things I will do store brands and others are name brands, just depends on the item and what's on sale that week

Ive tried to be more penny conscious - esp since DH & I are now only on one income & the store brand is pretty good for most things. The 1 thing I did learn recently at least for me is that store brand dishwashing tabs are HORRIBLE! They left a film all over my glasses & dishes & silverware that I had to scrub off with Brillo & re-rinse again...thats double the dishwashing work for me - no thank you. I'll keep using my electrasol tabs!

I buy store brand stuff all the time now. Juice, stuff like that I buy name brand. I mix it up because it really does taste the same IMO and store brand stuff is made by the big name brands anyway..

For food I only buy name brand but that is cause I'm very picky about food and only eat certain things

Paper goods and household items I always buy store brand

I buy mostly store brands, if you check the ingredients often it is exactly the same as the name brands. A lot are even the exact same product from the same factory with a different label.

I buy whatever is on sale. But there are a few store brand products I've tried that were terrible--so its hit or miss.

I buy a combo...paper goods and plastic utensils and foil and plastic wrap I always buy store brand, and I buy the Greenway organic line from Waldbaum's, which is their store brand...but then I buy name brand items when they're on sale and/or I have a coupon. I'm very conscious of that, I plan out my shopping for the week based on the circulars and coupons.

I do a mixture of both. Most things that I eat I have to buy name brand. While the store brand is similar to the name brand, theyre never exactly the same. Fillers (flour and such) are generally added to store brand items in order to keep them cheaper. So in that case, I have to be verry careful with ingredients.

I'm super brand loyal with random things...like windex. I don't know why, but I just won't buy the store brand blue stuff!

But with other things I could care less! Give me the cheapest and I'm good to go

I buy both. It depends. Certain things I'm very brand loyal about and others I don't mind so much. It all depends on the product, but I do also try very hard to always buy name brand things with coupons. It really brings down the price.

Re: Grocery - Store Brand or Other....

DH & I have learned over the last four years to buy what we like, no matter what the cost of it is. Initally we would purchase store brand items thinking we where saving money but if we didn't like the item we would end up throwing it away. So, since its only the two of us we purchase the items that we really like. Every four months we do a big Costco trip to buy the essnetials usually spending close to $200. Also when we go upstate, NY to my parents house we stock up on sale items. Especially on cans of Coke.
